History

In 2261, six such destroyers were stationed as part of the blockade at Proxima III where the Herakles and Pollux destroyed civilian ships carrying 10,000 people that were attempting to escape the system. Marcus Cole managed to bring the information containing the ID's of the destroyers to Babylon 5 when Captain Sheridan decided to move against the Clark led regime of the Earth Alliance. This destroyer group would later engage Sheridan's White Star fleet leading to a clash between both forces despite any initial attempt to force the Earth Alliance ships to depart the system. In this battle, a number of destroyers proved to be not allied with the Clark government with the Furies standing down Vesta whilst the Juno withdrew from the battle. Pollux was destroyed in the engagement whilst the Nemesis was damaged where it requested repair and the damaged Herakles had its captain removed from command by his commander whereupon it surrendered thus ending hostilities in the Proxima system. Some of these destroyers remained in the defense of Proxima III whilst others joined Sheridan's fleet. (Episode: No Surrender, No Retreat) Several Omega class destroyers were present within the Liberation Fleet that was moving deeper into Earth Alliance space. Clark dispatched a couple of further destroyer's to Babylon 5 but these immediately defected upon arrival whereupon they joined Sheridan's armada. (Episode: The Exercise of Vital Powers) In another engagement, a group of destroyers did not surrender as they had been told by EarthGov that their crews would have been executed by Sheridan and replaced by Minbari crews. It was only when Captain MacDougan demonstrated that this was a lie that these Omega class vessels surrendered. (Episode: The Face of the Enemy)

Clark forces managed to determine that the Liberation Fleet was heading towards Mars and thus decided to deploy his elite advanced model destroyers that were loyal to his regime. These ships would not defect and were believed to be tasked with targeting the defecting Omega destroyers with this ambush staged as Sector 300. A defecting duty officer revealed this information to Commander Susan Ivanova who took a squadron of White Stars to engage these advanced destroyers at the ambush site. The Advance Destroyer Group engaged the White Stars where they were all destroyed but inflicted heavy casualties on their enemy. This incident saw Susan Ivanova being critically wounded from the incident when debris from one of the destroyers struck the bridge of her White Star. (Episode: Between the Darkness and the Light) Around Mars, a large fleet of destroyers had gathered as one of the last lines of defense against the approaching fleet that was under Sheridan's command. Unknown to the General in charge of the fleet, the Resistance helped smuggle cryo-containers that held telepaths that were altered by the Shadows. Once activated, these telepaths emerged where they merged with the destroyer on their target vessel and disabled them as a result. Through this action, twenty ships were disabled whilst five more were shown signs of losing control leaving at least ten ships left operational. Sheridan's ordered his forces to strike at these operational vessels to knock out their engines and weapon systems but not to destroy them. This allowed for a direct strike against Earth itself in order to remove President Clark from office. Destroyers in the Liberation Fleet were responsible for targeting and destroying the defensive grid around the planet that Clark had activated as his final act before committing suicide. (Episode: Endgame)

Overview

It was noted that these destroyers were not capable of atmospheric travel. (Episode: Messages from Earth)

One type of vessel created by the time of the Earth Civil War that were produced with Shadow technology with these advanced destroyers holding a semi-organic hull design. Though powerful, they were not as maneuverable as smaller faster craft such as the White Stars. (Episode: Between the Darkness and the Light)
