History

Dragon Slayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough were a pair of warriors that inhabited the city of Anor Londo. Ornstein was a captain of the Four Knights of Gwyn Lord of Cinder, serving alongside Artorias the Abysswalker, Lord's Blade Ciaran, and Hawkeye Gough. As his name would suggest, he was an honorary dragon slayer. Meanwhile, Smough was the executioner for the royal family of Anor Londo who long dreamed of being anointed a knight of Gwyn. However, such was his relish for his work that he soon began to eat the bones of those he had executed. Regarded as distasteful by his masters, the royal family never raised him to the rank of knight. Though, after the gods fled Anor Londo, he remains in defence of Gwynevere's illusion.

Overview

Ornstein and Smough possess vastly different physical traits. Ornstein was slightly larger than human-sized, extremely fast and wields a spear, while Smough was several times taller than a human, wields a tremendous hammer, and walks slowly unless he was charging. Both of them wear golden armor which emphasizes their height - Ornstein's helmet was leonine with a hole in the mouth, while Smough's armor distorted his muscular body into an obese figure with a cherub-like face, although he saw out of the neck.

It was believed that Ornstein was left behind with Smough to guard Anor Londo's cathedral after the gods fled.

Ornstein wielded his Dragonslayer Spear that was a sword-spear after the fashion of Gwyn's Firstborn's own weapon. He also commanded the power of lightning.

Smoough's psychological instability and cannibalistic tendencies prevented him from ever being truly inducted into the Knights of Gwyn.
