Paco
Paco Testas walked down an El Paso street alongside his close friends, Jaime Reyes and Brenda Del Vecchio, on their way home from school while discussing their futures and upcoming academic obligations. During the walk, Paco Testas engaged in playful banter and lighthearted arguments with Brenda regarding their grades, highlighting his own relaxed attitude toward their high school education. As they crossed a local vacant lot, the group discovered a strange, metallic blue scarab object embedded in the ground. Paco Testas watched as Jaime retrieved the artifact out of curiosity, after which the friends parted ways for the evening to return to their respective homes. The following morning, Paco Testas arrived at school and quickly realized that Jaime had uncharacteristically failed to show up for classes, prompting him and Brenda to spend the day searching the neighborhood and questioning local residents to figure out their friend's sudden and unexplained disappearance. Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Paco Testas
Paco Testas was driving his vehicle alongside his friend Jaime Reyes on their way to a party when a violent conflict erupted from a nearby building. The confrontation involved members of the Brotherhood of Evil including Phobia, Plasmus, and Warp who were actively interrogating men and fighting over a high-tech backpack containing a mysterious alien blue scarab. As the physical struggle spilled out into the immediate external area, Warp inadvertently dropped the backpack directly into Paco Testas's passing car. In a direct effort to protect Paco Testas from the hostile combatants, Jaime Reyes quickly grabbed the backpack and attempted to flee the scene on foot, drawing the immediate pursuit of La Dama's personal agents, Bone-Crusher and Brutale. During the ensuing chase, Brutale threw a knife directly at Jaime Reyes; the weapon pierced straight through the fabric of the backpack and impacted Jaime Reyes's spine, inadvertently triggering the alien scarab inside and initiating a permanent physical transformation that turned the boy into the armored hero Blue Beetle. After being fatally stabbed, Jaime desperately looked to save Paco's life and forced his Scarab to provide measures to repair the damage. His commands forced the Scarab to produce an transbiotic antitrauma unit that bonded to Paco that fixed the injury. This was in time for paramedics to arrive where they took Testas to the hospital for recovery where unknown to anyone he went through a physiological change. (Blue Beetle v8 #5) This stemmed from the antitrauma unit that took control of Paco's body and enacted Reach protocols that forced him to attack Blue Beetle in order to relieve Khaji-Da from active status. Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Paco Testas was a human male teenager of Mexican-American descent who possessed a sturdy, broad, and somewhat athletic physical build. He had a warm olive complexion, short and neatly cropped dark hair, dark eyes, and casual facial features that reflected his youthful, street-smart demeanor. His everyday wardrobe consisted of standard, casual mid-2000s American teenage streetwear tailored for the warm climate of El Paso. He wore a loose-fitting, short-sleeved green t-shirt over baggy, dark cargo shorts fastened by a simple belt, and complete with flat-soled athletic sneakers appropriate for walking long distances across his neighborhood. Powers and abilities
Paco Testas was born a member of the human race, which meant that on a basic level, he possessed completely normal human physiological attributes, lacked any intrinsic metahuman traits or superpower genetics, and was bound by ordinary human physical limitations. He possessed no formal martial arts, military, or tactical self-defense training, relying entirely on his baseline teenage physical strength, sharp instincts, and local street smarts to navigate daily life. His primary capabilities were rooted entirely in his standard human athleticism, high endurance for walking across the city, and his strong loyalty as a protective friend within his close-knit social circle. Paco came to be bonded to a Reach transbiotic antitrauma unit whereby he was turned into an armored warrior under the control of the bio-mechanical creature. In this state, he gained strength that was strong enough to destroy a Reach warrior with this being activated upon the triggering of the backup Scarab protocol. Similar to a Scarab, the unit also possessed built-in weaponry that included countermeasures for a Reach warrior in order to eliminate them. (Blue Beetle v8 #6)

- In Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Paco made multiple appearances in the animated television series where he was voiced by actor Jason Marsden. He was shown as being unaware that his best friend Jaime Reyes was the Blue Beetle.
