The Parasite is an extraterrestrial sentient endo-parasite that features in the movie Unknown Origin.

The parasite were intelligent enough to make use of a starship and migrate to the planet Earth where they a member of the species was discovered by a Russian mining crew. After infecting several hosts, the parasite was almost destroyed until an American mining crew arrived. It quickly infected Human hosts and spread to survive while the remaining crew attempted to destroy it. Though ultimately the new born parasites were destroyed, two members of the species were present in two hosts that escaped by the end of the movie.

The parasite required a host to inhabit which it did so invasively through its tentacles that sprouted from its body. It appears as a light greenish-blueish skined coloured reptile thats the size of a Human chest. Once infested the host, it begins to quickly absorb the body of the host until nothing remains but a dessicated husk. This forces the host to eat a lot in order to sustain itself. Once the host is dead, the parasite abandons the body in search for a new host, however, it leaves a 'seed' of itself within the dead body which hatches into a new parasite within a days time. This is a biological process which is not under the control of the parasite which is extremely territorial and hates to share with other members of its kind. In fact, the parasite is incapable of determining if a host is infected by a member of its species.

This species is very capable of infecting a host and remaining within the body without detection. It only reveals itself when its host is about to die or it finds a more valuable host body. To do this, it quickly exposes itself by emerging from the hosts mouth, using its small arms to aim itself for a jump on a new host body after which dozens of tentacles emerge; wrapping around the body and forcing its way in.
