Biography

Percival (Japanese: パーシバル, Hepburn: Pāshibaru)

Percival engaged in a series of physical activities on a high, isolated plateau, including the lifting and throwing of large rocks to test his strength. He pursued a large bird-like creature across the terrain, successfully capturing it and carrying it back to his dwelling. He performed domestic chores such as chopping wood and preparing a meal using a knife, while interacting with an elderly man. Following a conversation, he attempted to descend the steep cliffs surrounding his home but was warned against it.

One day, Percival was chasing a Roc Bird while being assisted by his grandfather, Varghese, while the two live in isolation on top of God's Finger. After eating the creature, the two take part in a match of Gouren in which Percival loses and vents on his loss but his grandfather reassures him of his strength. The old man suddenly remembers that tomorrow is Percival's sixteenth birthday and explains how turning 16 is considered the entrance to adulthood and how he will soon set off on his own personal journey. However, Percival expresses no interest and claims that being with his grandfather was enough, much to the latter's shock. Later that night, Percival sneaks outside and remembers his grandfather's words and reveals he does in fact wish to seek these thrills but after waking up the next morning, finds a strange knight in red armor approach the summit on a flying boat. The boy is shocked and amazed at how one of his grandfather's tales are true while the knight asks if Varghese was around. After directing the knight in the direction of the house, Percival gets an ominous feeling and returns to the house to find the red knight attacking and mortally wounding Varghese. Percival attempts to attack but the knight easily overpowers him and attempts to silence the boy by using his power to give him a star-shaped cut through his body and further attacking Varghese, leaving the two to die in the snow. Despite his wounds, Percival came to his dying grandfather's side who explains that the red knight's name was Ironside and that he is his son, thus making him Percival's father. The boy is confused as first due to Varghese having told Percival that his father died when he was very young and his grandfather apologizes as he had to lie for reasons unknown. Before dying, he tells Percival that if he wants to understand why, he must seek out his father and ask him.

Some time later, Percival sits in front of Varghese's makeshift grave while the man's helmet and cape left to the side. He remembers his grandfather's last words and resolves to set out in search of his father to find out why he attacked them and after two days of descending the height of God's Finger, Percival finally reaches the land of Britannia. Upon setting foot on the surface, he encounters a mysterious talking fox-like creature, Sin. Despite wishing to befriend the creature, Sin opts to run away and causes Percival to follow after it which inadvertently leads him to the traveling circus performers: Katz, Elva and former Holy-Knight-in-training Donny.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Percival was a male of human descent with a youthful, rounded face, large eyes, and distinct, messy dark hair that featured two prominent wing-like tufts extending from the sides of his head. His facial features included a small nose and a wide, expressive mouth. He possessed a short, compact, and lean body type with a relatively small frame consistent with an adolescent. His clothing consisted of a dark, long-sleeved tunic that reached his mid-thigh, secured at the waist by a simple light-coloured cord or belt. Over his shoulders, he wore a large, tattered green cloak with a hood that was fastened by a circular clasp at the neck. His lower body was covered by light-coloured leggings or trousers that were tucked into dark, simple boots made of a soft material. He also carried a large, woven basket on his back, supported by straps, which he used for transporting gathered items and supplies.

Powers and abilities

Percival demonstrated a high level of physical strength and durability, enabling him to lift and carry large boulders and hunt massive animals with his bare hands. He exhibited the ability to survive a fall from a significant height off a floating island without sustaining injury or losing consciousness. His physical speed allowed him to outrun animals and move across rugged terrain with agility. Additionally, he displayed a high degree of proficiency in using a kitchen knife for precision tasks, such as skinning and butchering prey. He also showed the capacity for self-sustenance by foraging and preparing food in a wilderness environment. While he did not manifest magical energy or a specific named power during this initial outing, he showed the stamina to engage in strenuous physical labor for extended periods without fatigue.
