  • In Black Lightning, Peter Gambi appeared in the live-action television series where he was portrayed by actor James Remar. It was shown in this continuity that he was originally known as Peter Esposito where he was an agent of the secret government agency known as the A.S.A. with him taking an alias that was Peter Gambi. He was dispatched in this cover identity to observe the town of Freeland when the agency began making use of an experimental new drug as part of a program to control the African-American population there. However, the drug had inadvertently led to the rise of Metahumans among the populace with Gambi being given the role of a 'spotter' to find super-powered beings that were reported to the agency who were then taken by the A.S.A. During this time, an investigative reporter by the name of Alvin Pierce uncovered the conspiracy which led to him being killed by gangster Tobias Whale with his son Jefferson Piece witnessing the murder. Upon learning of this, Gambi cut ties with the agency and felt responsible for the death of Piere leading to him becoming a surrogate father to Jefferson Pierce who he discovered gained Metahuman abilities to control electricity. He then began training Pierce in combat and helped him improve the use of his abilities by constructing him a super costume as Jefferson became the vigilante Black Lightning. Gambi continued to support him from his secret headquarters underneath his tailor shop.
