Biography
Phastos was a male member of the race of Eternals that lived on the planet Earth.
After their recent death, Phastos came to be their number to resurrect where he decided to pass the time by studying the Machine and the temporal eddies around it. During this time, he came to learn the dark secret of the Eternals where their resurrections were powered by the death of humans with this overseen by the Machine. This horrified Phastos and he sought to stop this cycle instigated by the Machine without any harm to the planet itself but had to engage in such measures in secret as the great majority of Eternals cared not for the death of humans. Whilst looking through the temporal eddies, he came to witness the recent demise of the Mad Titan Thanos and sought to use him as part of his plot. He came to conduct a partial resurrection of Thanos with Phastos placing a failsafe that allowed him to remotely kill the Mad Titan. In exchange for his aid, Phastos promised to fully resurrect the villain if he were to help break the Machine with a device allowing him partial access to its systems. In secret, Phastos sabotaged the Machine to prevent the resurrection process whilst Thanos began murdering Eternals that stood in the way to their plans with this including Zuras. Ikaris and his comrades came to uncover this plot where they captured Phastos and undid his sabotage of the Machine thus preventing the destruction of the Earth. From him, they came to learn the truth about their resurrection with this disturbing Ikaris, Gilgamesh, Thena and Sprite. (Eternals v5 #6)
