Background
Project 318 was an experiment conducted by Genomex and funded by the space program in an attempt to create genetically enhanced feral New Mutant astronauts that could survive in aliens environments in order to better space exploration attempts. During the experiment, the two participants Michael Ward and Nathaniel Block contracted a virus that caused them to lose control over their feral mutant abilities.
After his inner beast was freed, Michael went on a murdering spree killing several hikers and infected Shalimar Fox. Adam Kane attempted but failed to find a cure for the virus while Shalimar Fox herself attempted to appeal to Michael's humanity. Ultimately, Michael was shot by Fox when he was about to threaten Adam's life.
