History

Project Noah was a top secret research program established by the U.S. government in the wake of the discovery of a Bolivian bat-carried virus that had the potential of creating enhanced humans. The virus caused hemorrhagic fever and those in those contracted it but also resulted in a boosted immune system along with agility in certain subjects. One of the discoverers of the virus was Tim Fanning who became infected with it leading to its study where it was hoped that the project could result in a drug that could greatly prolong the human lifespan through genetic experiments conducted on him. Unknown to many, the true purpose of the project was for the military to produce weaponized enhanced humans that were to be deployed in wars as the ultimate bunker busters. During the course of the experiment, a number of death row inmates were brought to Project Noah's secret military compound in Colorado where they were deliberately infected with altered versions of the virus in order to create a drug.

In China, a bird flu pandemic was spreading that was moving into the rest of Asia and no existing vaccine was shown to be able to combat it. Thus, it faced the potential of spreading and reaching the United States. Project Noah received this report from the C.D.C. whereby they redoubled their efforts in creating the drug that could save millions. To achieve that, they sought a child due to the plasticity of their immune system making it potential for them to develop a symbiotic existence with the virus (Episode: That Never Should Have Happened to You)

Overview

In appearance, Project Noah was seemingly a medical organization that was engaged in research in improving the lives of all Americans. (Episode: Pilot)

They were looking to produce a drug that made people immune to disease including infectious ones such as AID, Ebola, SARS and so on. (Episode: Pilot)

In order to produce the drug, they made of the special strain of a virus from Bolivian bats. All products of the Project derived from Patient Zero who was the first human carrier of the virus. Through him, tailored versions of the virus were made and volunteers on death row or imprisonment were injected with it in exchanged for commuting their sentence. Subjects experienced a period of accelerated healing whereupon they became immune to disease but developed a craving for blood giving them traits similar to mythical vampires. (Episode: Pilot) Subjects exposed to the virus were referred to as Virals where they experienced pain on exposure to UV light. (Episode: That Never Should Have Happened to You)
