The Quicksilver gland is an organ that features in the Sci Fi Channel show the Invisible Man.

History

Quicksilver was the name given to a hormone that was found within a terrestrial species on Earth known as the Sasquatch. These were able to escape detection by mankind by secreting the substance that coated their bodies and effectively made them invisible to the naked eye. At some point, an attempt was made to capture the creature but only a corpse was recovered by the Agency who began experimenting on the body. This led to the creation of Project Quicksilver that was under the supervision of Kevin Fawkes and his team of scientists. The purpose of Project QS-9000 was to experiment on the gland responsible for secreting the substance and find a means of implanting them in humans. This was with the intention of empowering agents with the power to become invisible and thus improve the capabilities of intelligence agents in the field. Initial testing began on animals before the Agency was ready to move to human trials where Darien Fawkes volunteered after being convinced by his brother to undergo the program.

Overview

The gland produced the compound known as "Quicksilver" which exited the body through pores and folicles thus coating it with the stuff. It had light bending properties turning the person invisible until they stopped the production of the compound which falls off in flakes. However, long use of the gland can result in the person suffering from Quicksilver Psychosis which can be life threatening. Which was why a counteragent was developed to force the reversion process.
