History

The Rangers were a team of superheroes that operated in the Texas region on Earth. Their origins were traced to an incident involving the kidnapping of Rick Jones by the Corrupter who had the Hulk under his control. Jones managed to send out a shortwave radio message where he attempted to contact the Avengers. Instead of the Avengers, five separate heroes answered the call with these being Firbird, Phantom Rider, Red Wolf, Shooting Star, and Texas Twister. They came to battle the Hulk where they were unable to stop him but did manage to aid him fighting off the Corrupter. In the aftermath, the Texas Twister suggested that the group form into a superhero team that gathered whenever a threat emerged in the American south-west. This led to them collectively deciding to take the name of the Rangers for their team. (Avengers v1 #265)
