In Rio de Janeiro, Sam Wilson encounters a red feathered falcon that he names Redwing. The Nazi Red Skull uses the Cosmic Cube to connect Sam and Redwing by a mental link. Wilson and Redwing then become allies of Captain America.

When Sam Wilson became the new Captain America, Redwing remained at his side. During Wilson's first mission as Cap, Redwing helped his friend fight some Hydra agent in the Ecuador basement. (All-New Captain America v1 #1)

Using the Infinite Elevator, Wilson and Redwing went to France to stop Zemo's failsafe which was a bomb made of the sterilisation plague that was in the body of Baron Blood. After taking Redwing captive, the scientist Karl Malus came to use the bird's DNA in an experiment on Joaquin Torres.
