Richard Vickers was a rich and mentally unbalanced man with an unhealthy obsession with electronics, especially video equipment. After finding out that his wife Becky has been having an affair with his best friend Harry Wentworth, Richard went off the deep end. He showed up at Harry's apartment one morning armed with a tape recorder, and warned Harry that if he didn't do exactly what he said, something "very nasty" would happen to Becky. To emphasize, he played a recording of Becky pleading for help.

Richard threatens Harry on the beach.

With little other choice, Harry accompanied Richard and they drove out to Richard's beach house at Comfort Point. Going out onto the beach during low tide, Richard pulled a gun and forced Harry to jump into a hole he'd dug below the hide tide line and then cover himself up with sand so he became buried up to his neck. Richard explained that he intended to kill Harry, and when the tide comes in, Harry would be drowned.

To make matters worse, he had also brought a TV out there playing a live feed of Becky in the same situation, buried up to her neck farther down the beach. He even set up a camera to film Harry's demise, enthusing about making the two of them "part of my home movies!" Yes, Richard is quite crazy. He commented several times on the picture quality of the TV, too. The tide began to come in, so Richard got into his Jeep and drove back to his beach house (which he rather jokingly referred to as Comfort Station). Fixing himself a drink, he kicked back and watched the live feeds of Harry and Becky drowning as the tide came in. After a while of this, an enraged Harry turned and looked right at the camera, vowing, "Richard! I'm gonna get you, Richard! I'm gonna get you!"

Alas, the two ill-fated lovers did indeed drown. However the bodies were mysteriously gone when Richard drove back out to the beach to retrieve the videotapes from the VCRs. He shrugged it off, figuring that the tide had carried the bodies out to sea. But as he returned to Comfort Station, Richard couldn't help but keep thinking he was hearing Harry's distant, ghostly voice calling his name. He remained confident however. "No need to get jumpy," he told himself as he got ready for a shower that evening, "They've all gone blub-blub-blub-blub-blub!" But as Richard showered, a pair of shadowy figures entered the house through the front door, leaving behind them watery footprints and a trail of seaweed.

Hearing the noise, Richard got out of the shower and threw on his bathrobe. His closed-circuit security system allowed him to watch any part of Comfort Station on a wall of TV monitors in his bedroom, but the screens revealed only a ghostly fog. He figured that Harry somehow survived and has come to get him (well, he's half right). Getting his gun, Richard shouted warnings to the intruders before going to his bedroom door. Opening the door, he was shocked to discover Harry and Becky standing there as waterlogged, seaweed-covered zombies. "We want to see you, Richard! We dug a hole for you, Richard! On the beach! You must go with us to the beach!" they gurgled as they staggered towards him.

Richard emptied his gun into them despite Harry's warning that they were already dead and therefore immune to gunfire. Terrified, Richard turned and ran into the bathroom, closing and locking the door behind him. Thinking he was safe, he turned around only to find Harry and Becky there in the room with him. They took him screaming down to the beach and buried him up his neck in the sand below the high tide line, setting a camera up to record his death before departing.

Now quite insane, Richard screamed "I can hold my breath for a looooong time!" as the waves washed over his head.
