  • Ritchie Simpson was created by Jamie Delano and John Ridgway where he made his first appearance in Hellblazer v1 #7 (July, 1988).

  • In Constantine, Ritchie Simpson appeared in the NBC live-action television series where he was portrayed by actor Jeremy Davies in the Pilot episode. He was present at the failed exorcism in Newcastle which led to him using prescription drugs to cope with the guilt. Simpson had at some pointed departed to become an academic at Ivy University where he spoke with a Southern American accent. Constantine met him again with Ritchie reluctant in helping him but Constantine blackmailed him into aiding him by hacking into the Atlanta power grid. He later returned in the episode "A Whole World Out There" where four of his students learnt about Jacob Shaw who was a man that could travel between worlds.

  • In Justice League Dark, Ritchie Simpson appeared in the animated film where he was voiced by actor Jeremy Davies. He was a friend of John Constantine where he had been involved in conducting a spell but the magic used caused him to develop cancer. As a result, he was slowly dying where a ward was created outside his home to keep out the Shades that sought his soul. At some point, Ritchie was contacted by the entity Destiny who offered him a means to escape death in exchange for his help. He had come to blame Constantine for his slow death and for refusing to help him with Ritchie agreeing to serve Destiny where he secretly orchestrated a mystical event. Constantine then sought him out alongside the newly formed Justice League Dark to investigate and stop a mystical disturbance. This led to Simpson being taken to the House of Mystery but this was actually a ploy by him to gain access to it in order to retrieve the Dreamstone. This led to Destiny possessing his body where the villain attempted to conquer the planet but was defeated thus freeing Ritchie from possession. Shortly afterwards, the cancer killed Simpson leading to his souls being taken by the Shades to be dragged to Hell
