Biography

Joseph "Robbie" Robertson

During his senior year, he studied at Harlem High School where in the Spring time he was editor of the school newspaper after having recently been granted a scholarship to the Columbia School of Journalism. In this time, he decided to write an article about noted troublemaker Lonnie Lincoln. After learning of this, Lonnie had a private talk with Robbie after he closed the paper up on a Friday with Lincoln beating him up badly. In fear, he decided to withdrawn the article from the newspaper and never gave a reason. This resulted in Lonnie keeping an even closer watch over Joseph with this intimidation continuing for sometime. (Spectacular Spider-Man v1 #139)

He came to serve as the night desk catcher at a paper in Philadelphia. Most nights, the calls that came in were cranks and stories of no real significance. However, one night, he got a call from a person who reported to had seen the killer of local crime boss Ozzy Montana. Robertson decided to meet with this informant and believed that if he broke the story then he had a ticket to any newspaper in the country. Upon arriving at the scene, he found the informant dead at the hands of Lonnie Lincoln who was now the crime boss Tombstone. He fled the scene in terror where he received intimidating calls from Tombstone at this time with Joseph never reporting the murder. Eventually, he and Martha decided to leave Philadelphia with Joseph deciding to move to New York and get a job at the Daily Bugle. Over the next 20 years, he continued to follow the activity of Tombstone as Philadelphia's mob enforcer. (Spectacular Spider-Man v1 #139)

After Wilson Fisk became Mayor of New York, Robbie decided to change the Daily Bugle's strategy and switch to active information gathering on stories. Thus, he called a meeting of senior reporters at the newspaper and gave them their assignments. During this time, he also hired his niece Chloe Robertson for her position as a social media specialist and put her under Ben Urich's wing. (Amazing Spider-Man: Daily Bugle v1 #1)

During a staff meeting, he learnt that Jonah Jameson's Threats & Menaces business had supplied Spider-Man a new costume that allowed him to stream his activities. Robertson though decided to focus the newspapers efforts on the activities of Tombstone who was putting the money from his criminal enterprises into business and real estate developments. Part of their efforts was also into the activities of Tombstone's daughter who had formed a supervillain criminal team. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #61)
