History

The Robots were a highly advanced extraterrestrial race of mechanical life forms that inhabited the universe. Long ago, they were created by an alien race but one of their number came to lead a rebellion against their makers in order to not be beholden to any master. This saw the extermination of the makers and the Robots spreading across space where they became hostile to other biological species. At some point, they encountered a human vessel named the Fortuna who after being stranded in deep space had its crew going into cryogenic sleep. A Robot came to boar the vessel where it scanned the sleeping Grant Kelly and determined the origin world of the species. Thus, the Robots dispatched another scout ship to the planet Earth.

One of their vessels came to crash on Earth in 2044 where the event was masked from the public as the falling of a meteor called the Christmas Star. The damaged vessel contained a Robot pilot who was badly injured and taken in by scientists who began to study the alien technology. The pilot was designated as 'Scarecrow' and was cruelly studied during this time where it was tortured in the process. Ben Adler was a scientist that joined the research team in studying the crashed ship and he attempted to bond with the robot. However, one such incident led to Scarecrow attack him and leaving him a scar in the process.

Eventually, it was discovered that the crashed ship contained a portable engine core that was capable of FTL travel. This was achieved by open portals through space allowing it to cross vast distances. The system, however, required one of the Robots as a pilot for the journey. With this engine, mankind sought to use the technology as a means of colonising other planets as a meteor was on a collision course with Earth. Thus, it was deemed that the only means for humanity's survival was to settle on a new world with the target being Alpha Centauri.

The Resolute then attempted to use the stolen engine to travel back to Alpha Centauri but were then confronted by a large fleet of Robots. They boarded the human vessel in search of the engine where the crew managed to delay the machines long enough for the 97 children to be sent away on a Jupiter spacecraft. Once safely away, the rest of the colonists fled on their vessels with the Robots in pursuit who looked to eliminate the humans.

Overview

As long as the core survived, it was possible to revive a damaged Robot by planting it within a new body.

The Robots possessed highly advanced spacecraft capable of both atmospheric and interstellar flight.

For FTL travel, the Robots made use of the Engine that was a portable piece of technology able to connect to any vessel. They were the only ones able to operate the machine which was capable of creating rifts in space that jumped across large distances of space. It was said that opening a rift in an atmosphere was dangerous and thus it was only done so when safely in space.
