Biography

Romulus

He had a twin sister who was a red haired woman by the name of Remus. (Wolverine v2 #311) According to himself, he was born in prehistoric times as one of the Lupine, a tribe of feral humans theorized by the Black Panther to have possibly evolved from canines rather than apes. (Wolverine v3 #53) However, Remus admitted to Wolverine that this was simply part of a subterfuge perpetuated by Romulus. (Wolverine v2 #312)

At some point, he came to rule as Emperor in the time of the Roman Empire where over the many years he oversaw gladiatorial contests that were fought between Lupine gladiators. One such match saw a blonde and a black haired warrior having to fight tigers that were released against them. After defeating the beast, they turned to the emperor who gave a thumbs down decision whereupon the gladiators turned against one another with one group decapitating the other. (Wolverine v3 #53)

On the Amalfi Coast in Italy, it was said that thousands of years ago that Romulus had built a mansion estate. (Wolverine v2 #312)

For more than a century, he was involved systematically in refining and revising his perfect killing machine capable of killing superheroes that was meant to be Logan. (Wolverine: Origin v1 #33)

Using his connections with Russian authorities, he arranged for Omega Red's transfer to a regular Russian prison to set a trap for Wolverine. (Wolverine: Origins v1 #37) After Wolverine temporarily subdues Omega Red, he is captured by Wild Child, who reveals that Romulus made Logan and several villains battle each other, his agenda being vaguely described as him needing a successor. Moments after Wolverine uses the Muramasa blade to kill Omega Red, Romulus reveals himself in front of him, prepared for battle with four claws already extended. (Wolverine: Origins v1 #39)

When Wolverine became untouchable, Romulus decided to refocus his project and instead fixed on turning Daken into the next generation Wolverine that was meant to be capable of killing Logan. (Wolverine: Origin v1 #33)

He was released from the Darkforce dimension when the still living Sabretooth attacked Cloak and threatened to kill Dagger unless Romulus was freed. Cloak was forced to comply and both Romulus along with Sabretooth took Dagger to the rebuilt cabin where Silver Fox had been killed. Sabretooth intended to kill the girl but Romulus kept her alive to draw out Wolverine with the two engaging in a fight. (Wolverine v2 #310) Following his fight with the Sabretooth clones, the mysterious woman appears to Wolverine again. She calls herself Remus and informs him that Romulus is her twin brother. (Wolverine v2 #311) She aids Wolverine in his struggle against Romulus and Sabretooth all while providing Wolverine with information about Romulus. She reveals to Wolverine that Romulus' claim about certain mutants evolving from canines rather than apes (referring to the Lupine) is untrue which Wolverine had long since guessed. She further reveals that the whole "Lupine Sapiens" story was all just an elaborate hoax by her brother intended to be a ruse for his real goal of creating a master race of natural mutants artificially enhanced by a new type of adamantium created using vibranium illegally mined from Wakanda, using Wolverine as a template. After tracking Romulus to his stronghold somewhere in Italy, Wolverine brutally attacks and incapacitates Sabretooth before confronting Romulus. Wolverine finds Romulus immersed within a tank very similar to the one Wolverine was held in during the days of the Weapon X Program. Wolverine breaks open the tank and savagely assaults Romulus with his claws. He gouges away much of the right side of Romulus' face, revealing that the bones beneath have been bonded with adamantium. As Romulus heals, Wolverine asks what the purpose is of becoming an imitation of him. Romulus declares that he is not as he once was, as he has "taken the best from both Wolverine and Sabretooth", implying that his animal-like powers were artificially copied from Sabretooth as his twin sister has none of those traits and her only powers shown is a healing-factor. He then revealed that he now has four adamantium claws from both his hands in exactly the same configuration he used on the gauntlets he wore. (Wolverine v2 #312) As he launches into his attack, Romulus says to Wolverine that having Romulus erase his memory and bond the adamantium to his skeleton was actually his idea rather than something that he was forced to endure as he's believed for so long. Romulus and Wolverine resume their battle with Wolverine ultimately proving victorious, resulting in Romulus being remanded to the Raft. (Wolverine v2 #313)

Overview

Personality and attributes

Powers and abilities

He claimed that he was immortal and that he had lived for thousands of years. (Wolverine v2 #310) One account based on theoretical information claimed that he was part of an evolutionary offshoot of Mutants called Lupus Sapiens. These consisted of all Mutants that had developed feral animal-like characteristics with them being descended from canines rather than apes. (Wolverine v3 #53)

For over a century, he had made use of the Hudson family tree as pawns and servants for his will. Romulus used them like puppets so that he did not have to expose himself. Once the Hudson had fulfilled their purpose, he no longer had a need for them and they were taken off the board. (Wolverine: Origin v1 #33)

He had access to the means of creating bio-engineered duplicates and make numerous clones of other people. (Wolverine v2 #311)
