Biography

Jennifer Stavros

Roulette joined the Hellions under Emma Frost’s leadership during a covert mission to abduct Kitty Pryde and Doug Ramsey. The Hellions executed a calculated raid on Xavier’s school grounds, successfully capturing their targets before the New Mutants intervened. When the New Mutants confronted the Hellions inside the Massachusetts Academy, Roulette engaged Sunspot and Wolfsbane with surprising effect: she threw her probability‑alteration discs to cause Sunspot’s back muscles to spasm, incapacitating him, and triggered a bookshelf to collapse onto Wolfsbane mid‑battle. Her interference sowed confusion, allowing the Hellions to retreat amid the chaos. As tensions escalated into a formal duel between teams, Roulette continued her subtle sabotage—fine‑tuning misfortune at advantage points to tip the odds in Hellions’ favor. Though the New Mutants ultimately claimed victory and fled, Roulette’s interventions demonstrated precisely calibrated control over probability and timing, marking her as a manipulative asset rather than a conventional combatant. Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Roulette was a female human mutant of compact stature and sharp features. She stood around 5′1″ with a slender, almost fragile frame, her physique both lithe and wiry. Her skin was fair and unmarked, with a pale complexion that contrasted her light blonde hair, which she wore in a clean, shoulder‑length style. She had clear blue eyes, bright and alert, often framed by a sly smile or a calculating glance. On occasion, she sported light facial markings—a red stripe or two—though these were not prominent in her debut. Her Hellion uniform was form‑fitting, combining dark red and black accents, including knee‑high boots and wrist gauntlets that allowed range of motion. Her costume bore no excessive ornamentation—it was sleek and streamlined, practical rather than theatrical. (New Mutants v1 #16)

Her core personality traits were manipulative cleverness, a penchant for mischief, and emotional detachment. Roulette often smirked when others stumbled or faltered under her probability‑alterations, enjoying the chaos she created. She rarely spoke, but when she did, her tone was mocking and sarcastic—especially when teasing teammates like Empath or mocking opponents. She showed no remorse when her discs caused harm or embarrassment, and she readily mocked Cypher during the Hellions and the New Mutants. (New Mutants v1 #16)

Her loyalty to Emma Frost appeared contingent and self-serving, guided more by opportunity than conviction. She seemed to thrive on unpredictability—relishing the control she wielded through random chance, even as she maintained enough restraint to avoid reckless volatility. She did not seek attention for power display; instead, she elevated subtlety and psychological manipulation as her tools. (New Mutants v1 #16)
