Scorpius Gigantus

Scorpius Gigantus are a type of genetically engineered insect created by a US research group and funded by the Pentagon in the movie Scorpius Gigantus.

The culmination of three years research, the purpose of the project was to create a life form whose immune system would help in the discovery of newer drugs that could help heal the most grevious of diseases.

Taking genetic characteristics from cockroaches, scorpions, warrior bugs, Humans; the species also had in their DNA titanium incorporated to allow them to support their size. In addition to this, the species were exposed to viruses, chemicals and pollutants as well as radiation which they survived resulting in the creation of a resilient animal.

The creature developed into a social organism with a near hive based mentality consisting of a female queen and her male drones. The males would compete with one another for alpha male status which would sometimes result in the death of one while the survivor mated with the queen; who in turn ate the male as part of the mating process.
