Origin

The Siege Perilous

It was a circle of standing stones which was where Brian Braddock was transformed into Captain Britain. (Captain Britain v1 #1)

Months ago, an archaeologist and his assistant from a university went out in search for the Siege Perilous. They came upon the doorway with his comrade believing that this would make him famous when they brought it back to the university. However, the blonde haired man who headed the expedition had no intention of bringing it to others and after murdering his comrade he went through the doorway himself as he believed the Siege Perilous only belonged to him. This transformed him into a skull-faced winged being with superpowers who came to be known as the Philistine. (Wolverine and the X-Men v1 #32)

Earth was later attacked by a Skrull armada and a wave of empowered Super Skrulls. The Skrulls had infiltrated the ranks of the British government, though they were exposed by John, a Skrull turncoat loyal to MI:13 and who had taken the form of John Lennon. The Skrulls' target was the Siege Perilous. Captain Britain and his team head there to defend it.
