Biography

Pre-Crisis

Brian Kent

At a jousting tournament, the evil Sir Oswald Bane killed Brian's father Sir Edwin, claiming it to be an accident. Before he died, Edwin, a feudal lord, instructed his son to continue his rule and look after the people. Sir Oswald heard this and set Brian under the knightly training of Sir Grot, a friend of Edwin's. Brian excelled at his lessons, but fearing that Sir Oswald would kill him if the boy became too good, Grot publicly humiliated him as an oaf.

While looking for one of Sir Oswald's prized hawks in the Forest Perilous, Brian found a trunk with a suit of silver armor, a sword, a red helmet and shield. When he first wore the armor, he discovered that it was a perfect fit. He then heard travelers being threatened by Sir Oswald's men-at-arms, and came to their aid, defeating the soldiers without uttering a word. When asked his name, he stayed silent to prevent the soldiers from identifying him to Sir Oswald. Hence, he became known as "the Silent Knight".

The Silent Knight had adventures involving King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. He also met the evil sorceress Morgaine le Fey.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Silent Knight Brian Kent was a male of the human race who possessed a youthful and clean-shaven countenance. He featured fair skin, a strong jawline, and short, dark hair that was neatly styled. His physical build was athletic and well-proportioned, exhibiting a lean musculature that provided both the strength for heavy combat and the agility required for rapid movement. He was most distinctively identified by his suit of ancient, polished silver armour which completely encased his torso and limbs. The armour featured a solid breastplate, rounded pauldrons, and segmented gauntlets that protected his hands and wrists. His head was fully enclosed in a traditional great helm that featured a narrow, horizontal eye-slit and was topped with a tall, flowing plume. Over his metallic protection, he wore a sleeveless white surcoat that hung down to his knees, cinched at the waist by a thick leather belt which supported his sword's scabbard. His lower legs were guarded by silver greaves and sabatons, and he occasionally wore a heavy, dark-coloured cloak fastened at the collar. The overall ensemble was striking and immaculate, presenting the image of a formidable and mysterious silver-clad warrior from a bygone era of chivalry. (The Brave and the Bold v1 #1)

He kept the armor hidden in the Forest Perilous, and hid his secret even from Sir Grot. As well, Lady Celia who loved the Silent Knight never did suspect that he was the seemingly dull, Brian Kent.

It had been suggested that Jonathan Kent is a direct descendant of Sir Brian Kent, making Superman his relative through adoption. (The Brave and the Bold v3 #10)

Powers and abilities

Brian Kent demonstrated the physical capabilities and martial skills of a highly trained medieval squire, exhibiting significant prowess in hand-to-hand combat and the use of traditional weaponry. He possessed a natural aptitude for archery, showing the ability to strike targets with precision using a longbow. His physical strength and agility allowed him to engage in wrestling and swordplay, effectively defending himself against larger, more experienced opponents. He displayed a high degree of horse-riding skill, maintaining control and balance while navigating rugged terrain at high speeds. After donning a suit of ancient silver armour, he exhibited a mastery of the broadsword and shield, utilizing them to parry heavy blows and deliver forceful counter-attacks. His reflexes were sharp, enabling him to react quickly to ambushes and projectile threats. Despite his young age, he showed tactical awareness in battle, using the environment to his advantage and maintaining a disciplined defensive posture. He also possessed the endurance required to move and fight while encased in heavy metallic plating, showing no signs of physical fatigue during prolonged skirmishes. (The Brave and the Bold v1 #1)
