History
The Sisterhood of Mutants
Several members of the Sisterhood of Mutants operated under the direction of Madelyne Pryor, who functioned as a psychic ghost seeking a permanent physical body. The team initiated their first major operation by infiltrating a cemetery in Tokyo, Japan, to dig up the original body of Betsy Braddock. During the exhumation, they encountered the X-Man Domino, who witnessed the abduction and attempted to stop them. Spiral, Chimera, and Lady Deathstrike engaged Domino in a brief battle, successfully subduing her while securing the corpse before escaping the scene. Following the theft, Madelyne Pryor used dark magic to transfer Psylocke's consciousness back into her original form, placing her under a hypnotic spell to serve the group. The Sisterhood then traveled to a late-night graveyard to approach Regan Wyngarde, known as Lady Mastermind, offering to resurrect her deceased father to recruit her into their ranks. Overview
In appearance, the Sisterhood of Mutants were an all-female strike force of mercenaries, sorceresses, and cyborgs assembled to serve as a dark counterpart to the X-Men. They functioned as a ruthless and coordinated cell, prioritizing supernatural theft and espionage over direct political confrontation. The group maintained a theatrical yet menacing demeanor, often using teleportation and illusions to mask their movements and confuse their targets. Their internal alignment was driven entirely by Madelyne Pryor's personal objectives, which focused on retrieving powerful mutant remains to test her soul-transfer rituals. Regarding their clothing and costumes, the members retained their distinct, individualized battle gear rather than wearing a uniform. Madelyne Pryor wore a low-cut black leather top with matching pants and a flowing red cape that reflected her persona as the Red Queen. Spiral featured her distinct six-armed cybernetic build clad in a minimal, fur-lined warrior outfit, while Chimera wore her signature green bandana and trench coat. Lady Deathstrike rounded out the visual assault in a dark, form-fitting armored tactical suit that accentuated her weaponised cybernetic enhancements. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #508)
The agents of the Sisterhood of Mutants demonstrated a highly specialized fusion of magic, cybernetics, and mutant abilities during their operation in Tokyo. Spiral exhibited advanced spatial sorcery, casting multi-armed spells to warp reality and dance through dimensions to transport the strike team instantly. For defense and offense, Lady Deathstrike utilized her cybernetic physiology, striking with an advanced healing factor and ten extended adamantium fingernails capable of shredding stone and flesh. Chimera displayed her unique mutant capability to generate dragon-shaped flares of green telekinetic bio-atomic energy, which she hurled to blast targets and pin down opponents from a distance. The leadership relied heavily on Madelyne Pryor’s vast psionic entity status, which granted her high-level telepathy and resurrection magic capable of pulling souls across the multiverse to force them into empty vessels. Beyond physical combat, the group leveraged advanced mental warfare, later incorporating reality-warping illusions to exploit their enemies' psychological vulnerabilities. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #508)
