History

The Sklarian Raiders were space pirates that emerged from the world of Sklar by the 30th century. When the planet Sklar was first reached out by the United Planets its population was introduced to its highly sophisticated technology. With low level technology on their planet the civilization rose up quickly by centuries, reaching levels the denizens of Sklar could not maintain on their own devices. This led its society nearly being destroyed by its own lack of understanding and coping skills with such high capabilities withy it newly found technology. It led to the world of Sklar being in the brink of chaos. The United Planets gave much of its technology to Sklaria, but the Sklarian Raiders believe it was just enough to destroy their society and put their world on the brink of chaos. (Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes v1 #235) In desperate need of high tech equipment for their homeworld, they resorted piracy. They unsuccessfully attempt to steal an experimental Hyper-Time drive using force beamers and aerosleds from a group of Legionnaires while it was enroute to their headquarters. (Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes v1 #233)

The Raiders next attempted to steal a computer bank which stored research of an experimental life extending serum. They traveled to the Life Institute on an artificial island anchored in the North Sea on Earth. They also raided Techos a biological lab on an asteroid which permanently orbited the earth itself, doing so with a tractor beam from one of their interstellar ships. After various encounters with the Legion of Super-Heroes and disastrous outcomes the government of Sklar and the Sklarian Raiders decided to change their course of actions. Soon they would renounce their attempts at piracy and becoming members of the United Planets.

Sklar signed a peace treaty with the U.P. that lasted a few years. Organ donation rates dropped dramatically on Sklar, so the Sklarian Raiders decided to ship frozen organs from Hong Kong’s black market, in defiance of U.P. rules. The Raiders set a fire at the Hong Kong Interstellar Traders’ Mall, and held off the Science Police with blasters. The Legion of Super-Heroes responded, and forced their way in. Invisible Kid spotted the fleeing intruders, identifying them as Sklarian Raiders. The Legion knew about Sklar’s peace treaty, so they were not eager to storm the Sklarian embassy. Chameleon Boy disguised himself as a Skalrian, while Shrinking Violet shrunk down and Invisible Kid turned invisible to sneak in. They discovered the Sklarians Raiders illegal shipping operation and shut them down. (Legion of Super-Heroes v3 #9)
