Solaris is a living planet that features in Solaris.

History

The planet known as Solaris was acually a living alien world that was covered with an "ocean" made of a single organism that dominated the world's surface. This ocean showed signs of a vast but strange intelligence which was capable of creating physical phenomena that was unexplainable through scientific means. Furthermore, the alien mind was completely foreign compared to the Human consciousness which meant that all attempts at communicating with it were futile.

Solaris was discovered by Human researchers who attempted to make contact with the intelligent mind with study going on for many years with little sucess except oting the complex phenomena on its surface. After these scientists made attempts at being more aggressive in making a forced contact with the entity, the creature impacted on the researchers on a psychologically trumatic level. This brought the scientists to experience painful and traumatic events that they faced in their lives or that were repressed with the materialization of complex Human constructs. This is believed to be the result of the entity also making experiments on those were who were studying it.
