History

The alien species origins were largely unknown with only little information available on their past existence. It was explained by Professor Herman Cromwell that the original species were based in the Magellanic Galaxy which was the only location in the universe where carbon-based lifeforms had been discovered. However, these alien organisms were noted to had been a cancerous race that had rampaged across the cosmos where they had visited the planet Mars millions of years ago. This was during a time when the red planet was similar to Earth but the presence of the alien species led to all life being exterminated on its surface with only trace remnants of their DNA being present within the soil. This mobile liquid pool of alien genetic material remained dormant and seemingly awaited the arrival of explorers in order to continue its cycle of infection on another world. The aliens remained undisturbed for thousands of years until life began to develop on planet Earth.

In 1994, the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Life (SETI) project made their first recorded contact with alien life. This came in the form of a message from outer space which contained two pieces of information. The first contained a more efficient way of using methane whilst the second contained a DNA sequence as well as instructions on how to mix it with human DNA. This led a scientific project being assembled in creating an alien/human hybrid which saw the DNA being injected into one hundred human ovum. From their number, seven divided with four of those seven dying out which left only three active hybrid eggs. Two of these eggs were kept into cryogenic storage in liquid nitrogen whilst the third designated S1L was allowed to grow and mature. It was decided that the specimen would be grown to be female in order to be more docile.

Overview

In terms of appearance, the true nature of the alien species was unknown. All examples of their kind were largely the result of hybridization with humans or infected humans with alien DNA within their systems. Whilst normally human, some pure example of alien genetic material took the form of blob-like substances with numerous tentacles as well as a long mouth formed appendage that struck against anything near it. The extraterrestrial species genetic material on Mars also took the form of a liquid blob that moved with its own mind and able to infect other life forms with its DNA. Their genetic material was noted for being highly versatile to the point that it was constantly evolving and mutating which provided them an amazing level of regenerative powers.

The hybridized species tended to demonstrate sexually dimorphic traits with the males being much larger than the females. A male human infected with the alien genetic material grew into a pure hybrid specimen where it was shown to hold a much larger quadrapedal form. In contrast, the female hybrids were much smaller and were bipedal with their size being the equivalent of humanoids though were much more agile. Normally, the hybrid species were able to shift between their human disguise to their true nature. Both genders true form were shown to be chitinous skeletal bodies that were semi-transparent. Their mouths held a pair of mandibles and their hairs resembled dreadlock-style tentacle tendrils. The ability to morph between the human and alien form meant that the species had the capacity to shape shift giving them the capacity to camouflage into target populations.

Technology

The technological capabilities of the alien species was largely unknown as they never demonstrated any high level of scientific development. However, individual members of this race were shown to be develop intelligence at a fast rate whilst they matured. It was shown that the signal sent to Earth containing the genetic code of the species was transmitted through several black holes in order to mask its origin point. Thus, they demonstrated advanced communication skills that made use of black holes as a carrier method. Furthermore, they had knowledge on how to make more efficient use of methane and hybridize the alien DNA with a native species such as humans. However, they never demonstrated the ability to construct starships though they did somehow establish a colony on Mars where they ravaged the once flourishing world.

A rejected script for Species II would have shown a space faring vehicle used by the original alien species though its not known whether this was constructed by the race or something stolen by them.

Members

  • Sil : first female hybrid specimen originally designated S1L who was kept contained in a government facility until her escape where she attempted to breed until she was killed by a task force. (Species)
  • Eve : second female hybrid specimen based on Sil though more sympathetic to humanity and used to track down the rogue male Patrick but ultimately was killed by him when she tried to save her human friends though during her death she gave birth to her daughter Sara. (Species II)
  • Sara : daughter of Eve and Patrick who escaped into the city where she befriended a human scientist in order to get his help to create a male mate for herself. (Species III)
  • Kal : a male specimen created by Duburke Chemicals who escaped from confinement. (Species: Human Race)

Notes

  • The design of the alien species was made by artist H. R. Giger.
  • An RPG called "The World of Species" made by Teeuwynn Woodruff was based on the Species setting where players got play the alien species or government special agents injected with the alien genetic material to give them enhanced abilities to better hunt their targets, however, they faced a life of constant struggle against their killer instincts.
