History

Origin

The Spider-Mobile

To promote their new non-polluting car engine, Corona Motors hired the Carter & Lombardo advertising firm to approach Spider-Man about building the vehicle. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #126)

After being unable to find it in the waters, Spider-Man faced off against a modified version courtesy of the Tinkerer. Battling it out with the car, Spidey subdued the vehicle and returned it to Carter and Lombardo, albeit a little smashed. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #160)

A duplicate of the Spider-Mobile was on display at the Smithsonian National Design Museum, which surprised Peter Parker when he was walking down the exhibit with Norah Winters. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #600)

Parker Industries

After the creation of Parker Industries, CEO Peter Parker moved to make the company into a global conglomerate. Among its branches was in Shanghai where Peter Parker designed and built a new Spider-Mobile alongside engineer Lian Tang. The new vehicle possessed the latest in terms of technology and was used by Parker Industries corporate hero Spider-Man. (Amazing Spider-Man v4 #1)

Spider-Man drove the Spider-Mobile with Mockingbird by his side where they responded to a series of heists committed by the |Zodiac. (Amazing Spider-Man v4 #1)

The spectacular Spider-Mobile was later involved in a Parker Industries event showcased by the company's employee Phillip Chang who was showcasing on a new green fuel. This was used in the vehicle itself with car developer Lian Tang and Peter Parker driving the Spider-Mobile itself. Later on, Spider-Man went to ambush Mister Negative only to be attacked by the Spider-Mobile piloted by Ms. Tang. It was later learnt that Lian Tang had been blackmailed by Mister Negative who was providing her with cancer drugs for her mother who was dying as a result of cancer. Thus, she reluctantly had agreed to work as a mole for his criminal organization. She was then told to kill Spider-Man which she attempted to do so but became conflicted as the Wall-Crawler reasoned with her telling her she was not a killer. Tang turned against Mister Negative to save an innocent life though this act caused the Spider-Mobile to become unbalanced on the side of a building. However, Spider-Man along with Cloak and Dagger came to save Lian Tang along with the hostage with the Spider-Mobile returned to ground level. (Amazing Spider-Man v4 #8)

Spider-Man/Deadpool

The original Spider-Mobile was found and repaired by Deadpool. After giving it a new paint job, he re-branded the vehicle his Dead-Buggy. (Spider-Man/Deadpool v1 #2)

Overview

The new iteration of the Spider-Mobile contained features such as voice recognition allowing the driver to play music through voice command. It could accomplish other feats such as opening the roof and switching controls to the passenger. For safety, the car made use of airbags that were formed from web-fluid to help cushion the occupants from an impact. It could deploy four stabilizer legs that could deploy or retract when needed. Notes

  • The Spider-Mobile was created by Gerry Conway and Ross Andru where it made its first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #130 (March, 1974).

Alternate Versions

  • In Wolverine v3 #66 (2008), an alternate version of the Spider-Mobile appeared in the Wastelands reality that was designated as Earth-807128 in the Multiverse. The Spider-Mobile was rebuilt by Hawkeye and one of his ex-wives 50 years in the future, The Spider-Mobile is the ride of choice for Logan and Clint on their journey to New Babylon. Its many features come in very handy on their trip, since it 'did whatever a spider could'; this version of the vehicle appears to be based on a military Humvee.

In other media

Television

  • In Ultimate Spider-Man, the Spider-Mobile appeared in the setting of the animated television series. The Spider-Buggy appeared in Spider-Man's imagination as a prize for defeating the Beetle, but then questions if he really needs a Spider-Buggy. The actual Spider-Buggy officially appeared in the Spider-Cave among the other Spider-Man themed gadgets created by Olly Osnick.

Films

  • In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the Spider-Mobile appeared in the setting of the animated film.

Video games

  • In Marvel: Avenger's Academy, the Spider-Mobile appeared in the setting of the mobile video game. The Spider-Mobile was built by a teenage Spider-Man using parts from a bargain bin. It was on par with 616's Parker Industries' variant in its 'spider-form'.
