Spider (Arachnia)

These Spiders are a parasitoid species of large arachnids that featured in the movie Arachnia.

The origin of these creatures was never revealed except that they lived deep underground; only surfacing when intense seismic activity or something as violent as a meteor strike allowed them access to the surface world. Once this occurred, they began to hunt for prey; be they animal or Human and take them to their underground nest in order for their young to be implanted in them. These 'hosts' remain suspended in webbing within the nest until the younger burst from the body of the host into miniature versions of the spiders.

The spiders were large and heavily armored allowing them to withstand bullet strikes against their skin though their faces and underbelly were vulnerable to chainsaws. They were also vulnerable to explosive attacks. Being an arachnoid species, the spiders possessed eight legs and two small arm-like claws as well as mandibles which it used to shred food or obstacles in their path.

The spiders differed from normal arachnids as they were social creatures and had a hive-like society. At the top of this heirarchy was a large bloated immobile queen who remained deep within the next. She would give birth to larva worm-like young which would be implanted within a host; a live prey was necessary for this to occur. The young would then violently burst from the host after sometime had passed. These young spiders would undergo a moulting phase where they would shed their skin and grow larger.

They were a subterranean species and lived in a series of large cave structures underground.
