Biography
Don Callahann
When his mother passed away, Donny came to be raised by his father alone. Despite that, the two often clashed and did not get along. Donny Callahan had problems relating to his domineering father, 'Big Mike' Callahan. (Amazing Spider-Man v2 #26)
In this time, he fell in with the wrong crowd, first joining street gangs. At some point, he met a young woman named Laura where they became involved and had a relationship. She became his girlfriend where she convinced Donny that they did not have to be pushed around by their parents or anyone else. Around this time, he became involved with street gangs and fell into a life of crime. Eventually, he allowed his girlfriend Laura convince him to be mutated into a superhuman enforcer: the Squid. They eventually joined the Wicked Brigade, a group of superhuman mercenaries. (Amazing Spider-Man v2 #26) In their first outing as supercriminals, the Squid and Laura, now the superhuman Ms. Fortune, attacked Spider-Man on a rooftop. The Squid managed to spray Spider-Man with his ink and grab him with a tentacle, but Spider-Man unceremoniously tossed them off the roof. The rest of the Wicked Brigade fared little better. He was then hired by an Upper West Side crime boss to eliminate local businessmen who would not sell their properties to him. (Peter Parker: Spider-Man v1 #16)
After being defeated by Spider-Man, the people that gave them their powers turned on them. Ms. Fortune ultimately decided to leave the supervillain life behind and broke up with the Squid. This led to Donny deciding to place the blame on Spider-Man for the end of his relationship. She broke up with the Squid, who was then hired by an Upper West Side crime boss to eliminate local businessmen who would not sell their properties to him. The Squid dragged 'Old Man' Frenzetti into the sewers in front of his cigar shop, killing him. Later that night, Donny Callahan confronted his father in his bar, Callahan's. Angrily storming out when Peter Parker entered the bar, he slunk back into the sewers and attacked Miguel Vargas, coming up through the pipes in his coffee shop. Entangled in the Squid's tentacles, Vargas ran out into the street, yelling for help, as the Squid emerged from the sink. Before he could kill Vargas, however, the Squid was attacked by a baseball bat-wielding Mike Callahan. The Squid easily crushed the bat, but the distraction allowed Vargas to escape. Angered, he turned on Mike, but was blindsided by Spider-Man. Angrily recalling his past defeat by the web-slinger, the Squid lashed out at him, but was beaten back once more. Before Spider-Man could take him out, however, he was restrained by Mike, who pleaded with him to leave his son alone, claiming that he was not right in the head. Taking advantage of his father's intervention, the Squid immobilized Spider-Man in his tentacles and began to strangle him. With the wall-crawler helpless, the Squid taunted Mike, telling him that he could not push him around anymore. To Donny's surprise, Mike agreed with him, and apologized for the way he'd treated him. The Squid released Spider-Man from his clutches, and began to advance on Mike. Spider-Man, still woozy, tried to stop the Squid, but he was felled again with a vicious tentacle swipe. Undaunted, Spider-Man rose again, and asked him if his father would have survived that. Donny realized that, for all the anger he felt towards his father, he still did not want to kill him. He lowered his tentacles and stammered an apology. Donny, Mike, and Spider-Man talked long into the night, after which Donny was presumably taken away by the police. (Amazing Spider-Man v2 #26)

Don Callahan was the son of Mike Callahan who went by the nickname of 'Big Mike' whilst his mother was said to had passed away when he was young. Donny was Big Mike's only son with the two not getting along. As a human, he felt that he was always pushed around by his father. However, as the Squid, he refused to listen to his father and openly defied him. Ultimately, Mike would come to the conclusion that he had been handling his son wrongly after all these years and did not know what to do in the end. He had said that he had tried his best in trying to raise his son and tried to be a good father. Meanwhile, Don said that all he wanted was to know his father and get to be like him. It was shown that his father owned a bar called Callahan's where Don was also working at for a time. Donny said he resented his father for not looking after him and that 'Big Mike' was more concerned about his bar than his son. (Amazing Spider-Man v2 #26)
