In Aztec mythology, Tamoanchan is roughly equivalent to the Christian Garden of Eden. Ruled by the goddess Xochiquetzal, this was the birthplace of modern humanity, a beautiful paradise dominated by a massive World Tree. When the first humans were old enough to live on their own, the gods sent them away, never to return- but Tamoanchan remained, a place of perpetual summer where the Aztec gods lived. In some accounts, Tamoanchan was also the birthplace of the gods as well as humankind.
