Biography
Tao Jun (道 潤 Japanese: Tao Jun; Pinyin: Dào Rùn or Dao Run) was a Chinese female daughter of the ancient family of shamans known as the Tao Family. Her father was Tao Yúan (道円, also known as "Tao En"), and her mother was Ran with her being the older sister to her brother Tao Ren. After her fathers death, she and her brother began to live with their uncle who was training Ren to participate in the Shaman Tournament.
During her time in Tokyo, Tao Jun first arrived in the city as part of the Tao family delegation after her brother Ren's defeat by Yoh Asakura. She immediately demonstrated her role as a Dao-shì by creating and commanding a jiangshi named Lee Pyron — a former Hong Kong martial-arts star reanimated with talismans. Arriving at the Asakura household, Jun launched an ambush against Yoh and Manta using multiple jiangshi, who overwhelmed the surroundings with slow, relentless advances. She deployed carefully placed talismans and paper seals, directing the undead corpses with precision to isolate Yoh from allies. Her jiangshi, under her control, demonstrated mechanical strength and kung fu techniques, forcing her opponents to defend themselves. When her ghostly puppet achieved little success, she amplified the threat by unleashing Lee Pyron himself, who surged through corridors with lethal speed. The streets around the Asakura home turned into a battleground of spirit versus flesh, as Jun orchestrated her zombie swordsman’s assault. She maintained control via her Fulu talismans attached to her cheongsam, and when the spirit rebelled, she attempted to suppress him with stronger seals. The clash culminated in a showdown where Yoh freed the spirit—breaking Jun’s talisman—and Lee regained his own will, rendering Jun momentarily defenseless. Throughout the battle, Jun’s strategic use of the undead and reliance on talismanic ritual showcased her disciplined training and Daoist heritage—a stark contrast to the more spontaneous approach of other shamans.
Following her defeat and the realization of her miscalculation, Jun shifted from attacker to reluctant student under the guidance of Anna Kyōyama and Yin-Yang shaman practices. She remained in Tokyo under custody of the Asakura family, watching the progress of Yoh’s training and quietly evaluating her own abilities. In clandestine moments, she accessed ancient Tao family scrolls and refined her binding techniques, revising how she placed talismans and prepared jiangshi. At the Shaman Fight preliminaries held in central Tokyo, Jun participated as part of Team Tao—the Patch Tribe's crew—and assisted by preparing talisman support and coordinating zombie guardians from behind the scenes. During Yoh’s later bouts, she silently monitored the outcome and recorded energy fluctuations, making notes on how to refine her control of Lee Pyron in future confrontations. While largely passive in combat from this point, she remained active as a tactical presence—attending the official ceremonies, managing the logistics of the family’s clan area, and aligning with Anna’s training schedule. Her focus stayed on mastering manual ritual technique and enhancing concentration for talisman creation, steadily rebuilding her spiritual discipline in preparation for further duels.
As the Tokyo preliminaries concluded and the Patch Tribe prepared for travel, Jun’s dedication to Ren’s welfare deepened and her loyalty to their family’s legacy became more prominent. Although she possessed no direct combat roles in later battles that occurred in Tokyo, she took charge of maintaining the clan’s spiritual equipment—mending shields, replenishing talismans, and ensuring Lee Pyron’s readiness. She also remained nearby during the Dia de los Muertos ceremony where shamans gathered to honor ancestral spirits, using her own necromantic talent to guide passed spirits with offerings, chants, and guardians. In those ceremonial rituals, Jun performed the invocations with accuracy, allowing benevolent spirits to pass peacefully and preventing malevolent ones from disrupting the gathering. She built a reputation among the other shamans for efficiency, reliability, and restraint—never overusing her control over the jiangshi unless necessary.
Jun and Tamao fight against Hana-gumi in order to defend Redseb and Seyrem until Mikihisa shows up. During the fight was is revealed that Bailong received an 'upgrade' of sorts after being defeated by En, in the form of a piston in his right arm which greatly increases his punching power.
She later became an apprentice of Sati due to her knowledge of human anatomy allowing her to revive people.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Tao Jun was a tall, slender young Chinese woman with indigo eyes. Her long, pine green hair is layered in length, spiked up, and neatly clipped. She wears a black and green qipao decorated with a golden dragon and a panda in the middle. The dress has a high slit and she wears a garter that holds her talismans on her left leg.
It was stated that her blood type was A.
Whilst loyal to her family, her greatest devotion was towards her brother where she had a protective nature towards him. In fact, she came to turn against the expectations of the Tao family in order to ensure Ren's success and well-being.
Like Ren, she once thought that her Jiang Shi was only a tool to be used for the Tao Family's ambition. However, after facing Asakura Yoh, she soon changed her opinion.
Powers and abilities
As a Dao-si (Chinese: 道士, Pinyin: dàoshì, Japanese: doshi) she operated as a Daoist priest who had the power to reanimate corpses to serve her.
She had her own personal jiangshi (guardian zombie, in Japanese, "kyonshii") with this being Lee Pai-Long (Lee Bailong) who was a famous movie star in Hong Kong that died seventeen years ago. Jun's control over him was maintained through he use of Jufu talismans causing him to follow her commands. At first, he was merely a spirit bound to his own corpse and controlled by Jun's talisman, but later regained his own will and fought for Jun without the use of the talismans, thus allowing both of them to hone their power out of mutual sync. He was later turned into the prototype of a new Tao-Style Jiang Shi, the power of science and the Over Soul working together, and several mechanisms and accessories were added to his body. The pile bunker systems inside his arms allow him to crush even iron.
Jun had a degree of knowledge of the human anatomy which in turn allowed her to stitch up Pyron whenever he was cut to pieces.
She would later become one of Sati Saigan's apprentice where she learnt how to resurrect people.
Tao Jun was a member of an ancient clan of Chinese shamans known as the Tao Family (道タオ家 Tao-ke, Chinese pinyin: Dàojiā).
