- Thomas Kalmaku was created by John Broome and Gil Kane where he made his first appearance in Green Lantern v2 #2 (October, 1960).

- In The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure, a similar character named Kairo appeared in the animated television series where he was voiced by actor Paul Frees. He was shown as a mechanic who was an ally of Hal Jordan and was aware of his secret of being Green Lantern.
- In Young Justice, Tom Kalmaku briefly appeared in the animated television series in the episode "Depths" where he was voiced by actor Kevin Michael Richardson.

- In Justice League: The New Frontier, Tom Kalmaku made a brief cameo appearance in the animated film.
