History
With Zhang released, he quickly secured the loyalty of the Tong that turned against the Mandarin when he returned to his life as Gene Khan. This saw the Makluan Rings taken away from him and given to their leader Zhang. He intended to complete the acquisition of the Rings of Power and claim the mantle of the Mandarin. Thus, he took Gene hostage and moved to target Tony Stark where Tong agents moved in to kidnap him and Pepper Potts. In addition, they detonated explosives at an abandoned factory that Stark had been using before moving to South America where the fifth temple was located that contained one of the Makluan Rings. Once there, Zhang and the Tong moved into the temple where Gene Khan along with Tony Stark were used to activate its test. This activated an ancient dragon statue that was the fabled creature known as Fin Fang Foom. In fear, the Tong fled the temple which forced their leader Zhang to retreat but during his escape he accidently lost the Rings of Power to Pepper Potts who fled back into the ancient structure. The Tong were later ordered to retreat as they intended to return once the dragon had killed Gene, Tony and Pepper. However, War Machine arrived on the scene where James Rhodes used the new armor to destroy two of the Tong helicopters. The third armored chopper attempted to escape with Zhang but War Machine broke into the helicopter where he took the Tong leader captive leading to his plan being defeat. (Episode: Tales of Suspense)
