  • In Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode "Hail the Tornado Tyrant!", the Tyrant began as the robotic creation of Red Tornado to be an improved version of himself that had emotions. Batman was brought into witnessing the creation of this android that was called the Tornado Champion that resembled a slimmer smaller version of the Red Tornado. He was implanted with a "Failsafe" program designed to shut him down if he became too dangerous. Initially, the Champion was killed and could not understand emotions nor did he acknowledge his creator as "father". To ensure his operation, Red Tornado had his "son" teamed up with Batman where they battled Major Disaster who sent a bolt of lightning at the Champion. This saw him glow with energy and emotionally address Red Tornado as his "father". The electrical attack activated his emotional circuits where he became eager to learn about emotions and accepted the love of his father. Together, they worked to save civilians threatened with a fire but the Tornado Champion grew angry when mankind showed nothing but fear to the android. Despite the advice of his father, he began to resent them but accepted Red Tornado's decisions. When Major Disaster returned, Red Tornado was damaged by the supervillain that angered the Champion who threatened to kill his foe though Batman stopped him. As a result, it was decided to shut down the Champion but after the attempt he revealed he had removed the failsafe and upgraded himself to become the Tornado Tyrant. With his powers, he decided to purge the world of mankind but was destroyed by the reluctant Red Tornado who shed a tear at the death of his "son" when he was forced to melt down the remaining components.
