Union Jack (James Montgomery Falsworth)

Main Article: James Montgomery Falsworth

Lord Montgomery Falsworth was a British nobleman who became a secret costumed operative for the British government during World War I. Clad in a costume resembling the British flag, the Union Jack personified the fighting spirit of Great Britain even as Captain America would symbolize America's ideals and fighting spirit during World War II. As the British government intended, the mysterious masked figure of Union Jack also struck terror into the minds of the Germans, who came to dread his one-man commando-style actions against them. In the later days of World War I, Union Jack often operated as a member of a team of costumed operatives from America, Britain and France, known as Freedom's Five, who battled the Germans. Union Jack (Brian Falsworth)

Main Article: Brian Falsworth

Brian Falsworth is the son of James Montgomery Falsworth, born like his father in Falsworth Manor in a village north of London. Initially, Brian and his friend Roger are sympathetic toward Germany and supportive of peace between it and the United Kingdom. Toward the end of the 1930s, the pair go into Germany, but quickly discover the evil nature of the Nazi regime. Brian is thrown in prison, and Roger is given to German scientists. (Invaders v1 #19) Brian gains superpowers through the help of a dying German scientist who tried to recreate the Super Soldier Formula that resulted in Captain America. Brian escapes prison and becomes a costumed Nazi-fighter within Germany, calling himself the Destroyer. (Invaders v1 #18)

Union Jack (Joseph Chapman)

Main Article: Joseph Chapman

Joseph Chapman

It was during a visit to Kenneth's ancestral home Falsworth manor that he was told the family secret: Both Kenny's grandfather and late uncle had worn the heroic mantle of Union Jack, while Ken's mother had been the superheroine Spitfire; also that the black sheep of the family Lord Falsworth's brother had been the vampiric German agent Baron Blood. Also visiting the Manor was family friend Steve Rogers who was summoned by Montgomery to help investigate the return of Baron Blood. They didn't have to wait long for the Baron soon entered the manor disguised as the local doctor, intending to turn his wheelchair-bound brother into one of the undead, condemning Montgomery to an eternity as a crippled old man. Lord Falsworth intended to act as bait by luring his brother into a trap, but he suffered a heart attack and was too weak to carry it out. It was decided that Joey would take Kenneth's place as Union Jack, as Kenneth would not have been strong enough to survive the fight. When the Baron was left alone with whom he thought to be his brother, he moved in for the kill; but then Chapman exploded out of the bed and launched a surprise attack against the vampire. Captain America entered the fray shortly afterward, and even though Chapman's inexperience in fighting vampires would work against him, the two valiantly fought Blood, and the Baron was eventually decapitated by Captain America's shield. Recognizing how he had earned it, the Falsworth's decided to allow Joey to continue as the new Union Jack. Shortly afterward Lord Falsworth passed away safe in the knowledge his legacy would live on.
