The Universal Library is location that features in an episode of The Silver Surfer.

Overview

The Universal Library was the homeworld of the Watchers who renamed their planet in order to serve as a collective archive of all their knowledge. In time, the Watchers themselves perished after the spread of a viroid disease caused by desire which devolved the race into a primitive amoeboid species leaving only Uatu the Watcher as the lone member of their kind. Before this happened, the race left a series of beacons spread across the stars that allowed others to arrive to the Library through a wormhole in order for the knowledge to be used rather then lost forever. The beacons were hidden and took their users on a perilous journey which only a few were capable of surviving; this was done so by the Watchers to ensure only the best arrived at the Library.

Upon entering the space around the Library, travellers entered on a beam of light with holographic projections of the Watchers bombarding the visitors with images of the accumulated knowledge they possessed. This had the unfortunate habit of driving the people insane as pain from so much knowledge threatened to overwhelm them.

Due to the infestation by the viriod entities that transformed anyone with desire into one of their own; the Universal Library was incapable of being used without degenerating into the amoeboid lifeforms.
