Unknown object (Supernova)
The Unknown object was a technological artifact that featured in the movie Supernova.
History
The origins of the artifact is unknown except that it was clearly made by an advanced alien intelligence that were aware of science far above that of Humanity. They placed the unknown object inside a cold moon where it remained undisturbed for unknown amount of years until a Human mining post discovered it in the early 22nd century. A miner called Carl Larson who began to change along with his comrades. However, some of the others became violent or wished for a greater reward for the device which forced Larson to kill them. After which, he sent a distress signal to the science ship Nightangle whereupon the object was transferred to the ship for study.
However, Larson grew increasingly violent and began murdering each of the crew one by one. His plans was to be altered by the artifact along with his ex-girlfriend Evers thus becoming the next evolution of the Human race. The acting captain and medical officer managed to retrieve the device forcing Larson to chase them. He managed to recover it from a robot but it had a detonator attached to it which exploded. The unknown object was then propelled into the orbit of the blue giant star after which it exploded.
The Nightangle managed to dimension jump away but the artificial intelligence noted that the shockwave from the extradimensional matter would continue to expand throughout known space and reach Earth in 51 years. Its effects would be unknown; it would either destroy all of existence thus allowing new life to form or forcibly Humans into a new race.
Background
The artifact appeared as an oval shaped device that size of the upper Human body and consisted of an outer purple shell with a black core. The surface of the object moved as if it was consisted of a liquid and radiated purple energy outside the shell. The outer part of the object was actually composed of three dimensional matter, the same as that of the rest of the universe. The inner part, however, consisted of ninth extradimensional matter which was theoretical science among the research community of Earth in the 22nd century. Ultimately, the device was a delivery mechanism with the shell designed to protect the extradimensional matter until detonation after which it would direct its contents in an omnidirectional pattern. It was referred to as a creation device by one of the scientists that examined it.
The outer shell was extremely dense and powerful enough to withstand most damage. It was easily capable of surviving for countless centuries in an ice moon with no damage to its functions and as well as survived an explosive detonation. An unknown series of events, however, alerted the machine to enter into a critical stage whereupon it grew increasingly unstable to the point that it detonated. Once it exploded the dimensional matter created a powerful shockwave that destroyed the nearest planet and went about a path throughout the universe, changing it to unknown results. It was believed that Humanity might either be destroyed as a result or evolve into something new.
The unknown object contained elements that were essential to the continuation of life and was noted as being able to continue to replenish the stars and other elements within the universe. Its effects on Human life was extensive with continued exposure constantly changing a Human's body. Noted developments was a hardened growth over the skeletal structure, improved lifesigns such as health and strength and the individual actually becoming younger. Typically, the mental faculties of the person also changed with some individuals becoming maniacal. Those that have had the longest contact seem to have their bodies filled with the extradimensional energy to the point that electrical shocks were formed around their hands. These individuals had improved recuperative abilities allowing them to survive conventional weaponry and heal from the injuries. These persons were capable of surviving blows that would kill a person with little harm, have gun shots to the head, laser beams in the eyes, a spear through the stomach and their arm cut off with no great diminishment in their capabilities. Pain was still prevalent but ultimately the damage regenerated with each healing changing the person's physical appearance. One altered Human had his hand cut off with a mechanical tool but once the evolved Human managed to retrieve the limb, it immediately connected back to the body. A Human altered by the 9th dimensional matter were, however, capable of being killed by explosives.
The artifact was speculated to be a type of bomb created by a race that were "smarter then God and a lot less friendly". It was believed that the device would be left to be found by another lesser advanced race who would take it to their home whereupon it would explode thus destroying any competitors for the creators of the unknown object.
