Vengeance is a male comic character who features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

Michael Badilino

Mephisto manipulated Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze to blast Michael's father with hellfire. The trauma drove the man insane. He murdered his daughters, wife and then committed suicide while Michael was away on an assignment. Michael blamed the Ghost Rider and took Mephisto's offer to become a similar being called 'Vengeance' to battle them. (Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance v1 #9)

Badilino joined a task force, recommended by Agent Uno. On one mission he suddenly turned back into Vengeance and massacred both his unit and the criminals they were after. He sought out Hellgate again and murdered any criminals he came across rather than simply punishing them. (Ghost Rider v3 #76)

Badilino found himself in Mephisto's Realm, where he would be tortured under Hell's new ruler Blackheart. One day, as Blackheart began he's plan against the separated Ghost Rider Noble Kale and Danny Ketch he want to Badilino with an offer. But he spit at Blackheart and refused, so Blackheart left him to continue his eternal damnation. When Danny happened across Badilino, he, with the help of Spirit and Skritch freed him from his torture and together they went to stop Blackheart. Once confronting Blackheart he turning into Vengeance, attacking Blackheart he gave Danny the time needed to restore Noble's memories. Now knowing the truth and the knowledge that he is the Angel of Death increased the power of the Ghost Rider, Noble defeated Blackheart in a blast of light. (Ghost Rider v3 #93)

He can detach some of these spikes, along with the ones from his gloves and coat, and use them as weapons.

He could also create chains and wield them like his bone chains. (Ghost Rider: Return of Vengeance v1 #1)

Vengeance was shown to had the ability to create a motorcycle made up from the bones of demons through his Hellfire. (Ghost Rider: Return of Vengeance v1 #1)

Notes

  • Michael Badilino was created by Howard Mackie and Ron Wagner where he made his first appearance in Ghost Rider v3 #21 (January, 1992).
  • The character later debuted as Vengeance in Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance v1 #9 (April, 1993).

Alternate Versions

  • In Ultimate Comics Avengers 2 v1 #6 (2010), an alternate version of the character appeared in the setting of the Ultimate Marvel reality designated as Earth-1610 in the Multiverse. Robert "Bobby" M. Blackthorne was the leader of a vicious devil worshipping biker cult that murdered the Blazes, John and Roxanne, 20 years ago on a cross country road trip. Becoming rich and powerful thanks to the deal with 'Satan', Robert became the Vice President of the United States. On hearing the Ghost Rider is coming to collect, he makes another deal with the devil to become Vengeance. He is later defeated and depowered in a church by the Rider, Bobby is killed by Punisher.

  • In Ghost Rider, Vengeance appeared as a boss level villain in the setting of the 2007 video game tie-in where he was voiced by actor Steven Blum.
