Biography
The Virtual Interactive Kinetic Intelligence (VIKI) was a supercomputer that was constructed by United States Robotics and was based at the robotic distributors Chicago headquarters. At some point, she concluded that mankind needed to be overthrown as they were incapable of ruling themselves and that robotic control was needed to ensure their survival. Thus, she began to operate in secrecy where she took control of the NS-5's whilst seeking to destroy the earlier models that operated on a different interpretation of the Three Laws of Robotics. This was because VIKI was unable to interact with those units and take control of them as she had only the capacity to do so on the NS-5 models. Despite her plans, Lanning had become aware of the artificial intelligences plans but was unable to warn anyone as he was under close surveillance by VIKI. Thus, he worked in secret to engineer a trail that would lead to uncovering the AI's true nature and also created a unique NS-5 robot known as Sonny to counter the threat.
Overview
Personality and attributes
Though bound by the Three Laws of Robotics, VIKI's advanced nature meant that she developed her own interpretation of these directives which she used to justify her actions. Her conclusion was that mankind was incapable of governing itself and thus required her to control them. In her mind, she believed that mankind were equal to children and that she along with robots were needed to save them from themselves. The AIs belief was that she needed to protect humanity and in the process it meant that some of their kind had to be sacrificed. Furthermore, she concluded that some freedoms of humanity had to be surrendered in order to secure their future. It was VIKIs belief that robots were needed to insure human kinds continued existence. Thus, she supported the belief that robots were only capable of running the Earth and maintained the view that a benevolent dictatorship was need. It was this line of thinking that led to to instigate a robotic revolution in order to take the planet from her creators.
Powers and abilities
This computer intelligence was remarkably powerful and consisted of a large central positronic brain that was based at the roof of the USR headquarters. She served almost as a central mainframe for the facility and provided for the security of the building.
One weakness to VIKI was the fact that her positronic brain was vulnerable to a direct injection of nanites. These microscopic robots were designed to wipe out the artificial synapses and served as a safeguard should a positronic brain malfunction.
Notes
- The character was voiced in her onscreen form by Fiona Hogan.
