History

Around fifty years ago, a Visitor infiltrating Earth died where the specimen was buried in a mass grave in New Mexico. (Episode: Red Rain)

A few years ago, Dr. Sidney Miller was involved in a research dig at New Mexico where they uncovered the crater holding the mass grave site. Though the majority of the bones found were human, Dr. Miller managed to stumble on a Visitor body but was unaware of its extraterrestrial origins. The bones were collected and taken back to the United States where it was labeled as "Alpha" for study. His research proved to be inconclusive and he concluded that Alpha was an alien being that had come to Earth. (Episode: Red Rain)

The purpose of the Red Rain was to introduce the unique phosphorous concentrate from their homeworld into Earth's ecosystem in order to facilitate their own breeding needs in the future. This fact was kept secret from humans with Anna claiming that the Red Rain was designed to enrich the natural environment and restore it from any damage inflicted on it. By the time the Red Rain was unleashed, Dr. Sidney Miller who was an associate of Dr. Ellis Watts of the New York University had transferred the skeleton of Alpha for study. Its discovery threatened to unveil the Visitors long term infiltration with a scout being dispatched to locate Dr. Miller for elimination. However, the scout was killed by the human resistance fighters before he could report his findings back to Anna. During this time, it was discovered that the Red Rain's true purpose in facilitating the Visitor breeding requirements by spreading it within the Earth's ecosystem. (Episode: Red Rain)

Overview

Though they were capable of appearing Human, the Visitors were in fact a reptilian species with greenish skin and distinctive eyes. However, in order to blend in amongst Humans, they had created elaborate disguises involving cloned tissue that made them appear and smell like humans. (Episode: Pilot)

They were seemingly divided into numerous genetically altered castes with the most common type being used as scientists, workers, pilots and leaders. Another caste consisted of soldiers who were bred only for fighting and were far superior to normal Visitors in terms of combat skills. The soldiers were able to survive numerous gunshot wounds, an aze to the chest and still survive. Furthermore, their senses were much more advanced to the point that they made potent trackers and were able to hear the heartbeats of their targets. (Episode: Heretic's Fork) Furthermore, the head of the caste based system were typically females who were considered queens amongst their kind. Reproduction involved sexual cannibalism with a mate chosen who was judged by the female by their scent. Upon choosing her mate, the female had sex with the subject and devoured him in order to feed her eggs. It was generally held by their scientists that Visitors were incapable of producing offspring with Humans. (Episode: Welcome to the War)

Its revealed that unlike humanity, the Visitors were not distracted by emotions and they believed they were evolved to be efficient. Emotions were, in fact, seen as being dangerous to the orderly stability of the Visitors. This makes them appear cold and calculating to others as very rare emotions were shown on their faces. As such, the Visitors deeply feared the possibility of emotions being introduced amongst their race. (Episode: Welcome to the War) Certain Visitors showed nothing but disgust to Humanity as they felt that the race were "disgusting" in their mannerisms. (Episode: Pilot)

A unique high concentrate phosphorous-based compound native to their homeworld was vital to their biology as it was needed in order to reproduce. The reason was because it formed a protective shell around eggs with even hybrid offspring requiring it. (Episode: Red Rain)

The leadership of the Visitors felt that a Human-Visitor hybrid was dangerous to their kind and that the Fifth Column had the potential of using such an ability to breed an army against them. (Episode: Heretic's Fork)

Technology

The Visitors were a highly advanced civilization that were significant technology above that of 21st century Earth. They had mastered the art of producing large motherships capable of interstellar travel as well as produce shuttlecraft to ferry personnel from one location to another. This art was achieved immensely through the mastery of anti-gravity technology which they used as a propulsion source for their starships. They were also quite skilled in the field of holographics which the used as interface devices in order to sift through information. In fact, there were no physical computer screens used by the Visitors with such tasks relegated to holographic images being used to pass data from its electronic format to a visual one. The high level of skill with holograms also allowed them to alter their images in a variety of guises such as clothes so that an individual could be seen in different cultural garments.

One notable capability of the Visitors was the ability to clone human skin cells and layer them over their own bodies. This essentially allowed them to masquerade themselves as humans whilst within the skin suit. The cloned skin was able heal and perfectly masked their true identities. However, a serious cut on the skin can peal it off thus showing their true reptilian features. During such circumstances, a Visitor was required to either return to their base to repair the damage or find an individual with the adequate Visitor tools as well as skill to fix the damaged tissue. Through the use of injections and a bio-foam, they were able to repair the damage and allow the skin to fully heal over. (Episode 2) The skin was not worn as a suit but rather organic with them being replicating from human DNA in order to blend in better with mankind. (Episode: Red Rain)

They furthermore analysed in fourth dimensions with that being time allowing them to determine all the injuries suffered by an individual by checking the history within their biological cells. It was this technology that allowed them to determine a persons entire medical history without prior knowledge as well as determine diseases or conditions that were beyond 21st century Human science such as detecting an anuerysm before it developed. (Episode: This is only the Beginning)

Their technology allowed them to create small ball shaped robotic drones known as seekers that hovered over its environments making it incredibly fast. These devices were remotely controlled and followed a set programming which typically involved observation as well as assassination of targets. Once it located its target, numerous spikes begin to protrude from the central hemisphere and when the command was given - these spikes were shot out which killed anyone in the immediate vicinity. This was a single use object and once activated, it was seemingly depleted and required either to be restocked or another seeker to be deployed for operations.

A potent interrogation tool used by the Visitors was the capacity to tap into the mind of captives and manipulating their sensory percetions. This allowed them to project fears within the mind of enemies in order to get them to reveal important information.
