Overview

In appearance, the Web of Life and Destiny was a three-dimensional construct in five-dimensional space which acts as a model of the entire Multiverse and enables travel between realities. (Web Warriors v1 #1) It was a colossal, glowing three-dimensional tapestry composed of infinitely intersecting strands of raw psionic and temporal energy. The entity lacked traditional organic bones, standard facial dimensions, or a uniform humanoid build, appearing instead as a massive cosmic spider web that spanned across the absolute vacuum of the lower dimensions. The individual glowing silk lines continually pulsated with high-frequency white, silver, and neon-blue energy fields, with each intersection displaying a tiny, flickering window that mirrored specific historic events from a corresponding parallel universe. The central nexus of the entity was physically anchored to a towering stone loom mechanism within the Great Hall of Loomworld, where the threads tightly wrapped around the metallic armor and mechanical appendages of its designated weaver. The entity did not wear traditional manufactured garments, completely eschewing human clothing to display its raw celestial geometry, which radiated a brilliant, blinding aura of pure white light across the dimensional rift. It maintained absolute timelessness, multiversal self-sustenance, and served the role of being the primary source for all totemic spider powers throughout existence. Its unique, five-dimensional physiology offered it the capability to seamlessly map billions of alternate Earths, survive catastrophic reality-warping resets, and effortlessly channel the ambient life force of an entire multiverse through its energy strands. The entity did not possess standard human intellect or rely on earth science, mastering instead innate reality-warping mechanics that allowed individual strings to function as instant physical gateways between separate dimensions. This specialized structural power allowed outside entities to telepathically observe distant timelines, peer directly into the destiny of living mortal avatars, and travel across the cosmos at instantaneous speeds, though its cosmic integrity remained strictly bound by the health of three specific totems known as the Bride, the Other, and the Scion, whose spilled blood would automatically trigger a localized chain reaction capable of systematically extinguishing all spider life across the multiverse. According to one account, the Great Weaver spun the Web of Life and chosen its avatars. (Amazing Spider-Man v2 #32) A key figure in the maintenance of the Web of Life was a figure known as the Master Weaver. (Amazing Spider-Man v3 #15) A totemic deity known as the Other was also linked to the Web of Life and Destiny that was able to embed itself in a Spider-Totem greatly augmenting their powers as well as transforming them into humanoid spider-monsters when they were in great danger or enraged. (Amazing Spider-Man v3 #10) In addition, there were two other beings part of a trio said to be an important facet of the Web of Life and Destiny with these being the Bride and the Scion. (Amazing Spider-Man v3 #11) The Bride was said to be responsible for Spider-Totems appearing through chance, curses, magic, and unwanted luck. (Amazing Spider-Man v3 #14)

Certain avatars were chosen to help re-spin the web and fix damage done to it with these being referred to as the Patternmaker. (Spider-Girls v1 #3) One mystical force protecting the choosing of Spider-Totems was the Gatekeeper that manifested as a swarm of spiders into a humanoid form that targeted those deemed unworthy of their powers. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #507)

Those chosen by the Web were gifted their powers typically through a spider. (Amazing Fantasy v1 #15)

It was said to be the source of precognitive abilities of the various Spider-Totems. This included the 'Spider-Sense' exhibited by various totemic avatars and even the future sight held by Madame Web. (Amazing Spider-Man v3 #15)

• In Marvel Contest of Champions, the Web of Life and Destiny was referenced in the setting of the mobile video game. It was referred to as the Great Web, Web of Fate and Destiny. The Web was also part of the event quest 'Arachnophobia'.
• In Marvel Strike Force, the Web of Life and Destiny was referenced in the setting of the mobile video game. An original character made for the game was Spider-Weaver who was tied to the Web of Life. Born Ajei Benally, she was part of a long line of Navajo weavers that passed their techniques and traditions from generation to generation. Brilliant and extroverted, Ajei's family was overjoyed to send her to college in Las Vegas, Nevada. But while she was away, Ajei's grandmother fell mysteriously ill and became too frail to continue weaving the beautiful textiles that paid Ajei's tuition. Returning home from college, Ajei decided to make it her mission to discover what made her grandmother sick and find a cure. Ajei remembered tales of the Na’ashjeii Asdzáá, a Navajo Spider Deity who protected and guided those in need and set off to find her. Deep in the desert, she found an empty spider web glistening with dewdrops and placed her palm against the web. A great pain shot through her hand, and as she recoiled, she discovered a spider sitting in the middle of the web. Returning home, Ajei was overcome with a fever and, in her sleep, had visions of Na’ashjeii Asdzáá. She told Ajei about the Web of Life and Destiny and that a powerful being was tainting her grandmother’s thread in the hopes of cursing the Na’ashjeii Asdzáá's past and future weavers. But with Ajei's help, the Na’ashjeii Asdzáá could free her grandmother and protect the web. Ajei awoke, dazed but rested, and while contemplating her dreams, began a weaving project. But without even thinking, Ajei began producing mystical silk, which transformed into a uniform with a powerful spider design. Rushing to her grandmother, Ajei showed her the mystical silk when suddenly she sprouted ethereal spider arms, which she used to cleanse the Web of Life, healing her grandmother and thwarting whoever sought to hurt the weavers. With her grandmother safe and secure, Ajei decided to track down this being to protect the Na’ashjeii Asdzáá, the Web of Life, and other weavers who might be vulnerable. Donning the spider clothing she wove earlier, Spider-Weaver followed this being’s path back to her other home, the city of sin, Las Vegas.
