Upon settling Winath, the colonists faced a large number of casualties due to the storms that claimed so many lives. As a result, the people attributed these to be the actions of an evil storm god that they named Validus. (Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes v1 #32)
Overview
A local myth spoke of a figure known as Validus who was considered the Lord of Lightning that lived in the storm clouds and whose story was used to frighten children. Validus was regarded as an evil spirit and storm god with a cult forming to worship them though others opposed the group. The Cult of Validus followed the teachings in their prophecy where they sought to bring about the emergence of Lord Validus in the flesh. (Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes v1 #32)
