Biography

Wundarr was born on the planet Dakkam to the renegade house of Zeneg. His parents, erroneously believing their planet's sun was about to blow up, placed Wundarr as an infant inside a rocket and sent him through space to safety. Wundarr's parents were then shot dead on the orders of their world's ruling Triumvirate in order to stop them from causing an unnecessary panic. Spending the interstellar voyage in suspended animation, Wundarr eventually arrived within the gravitational influence of Earth and was bombarded by cosmic rays in Earth's outer atmosphere, endowing him with certain superhuman physical powers. Crashing to Earth, Wundarr grew to maturity within the ship, having been released from suspended animation. Eventually he was set free by the Man-Thing. Due to his lack of experience and education, and remaining unaware of his true origins, Wundarr acted emotionally and mentally delayed. Shortly after his awakening, he was attacked by assassins from Dakkam who had been sent to eliminate him in case he turned his great powers against the Triumvirate in revenge for his parents' deaths, but he was saved by The Thing and Sub-Mariner. (Marvel Two-In-One v1 #2)

In July 1951, Wundarr's ship is caught by Earth's gravitational pull, and passes through a layer of cosmic rays before entering Earth's atmosphere and crashing in a Florida swamp. An elderly couple known only as Maw and Paw observe the crash from their car. Paw considers checking out the crash site, but Maw insists that it might contain Martians or Communists and demands that he ignore it; thus, Wundarr remains in his ship for a number of years, growing to physical maturity, though retaining the mind of a child. Twenty years later, Man-Thing senses someone inside the rocket, and is compelled to free whatever is trapped inside. Man-Thing being the first creature Wundarr sees, he is convinced that this is his mother. Man-Thing, being emotionless, does not react to Wundarr's cravings for attention. He learns very quickly of his amazing strength and bests Man-Thing in battle. Man-Thing's continued attempts to be left alone result in Wundarr eventually deciding that Man-Thing is not his mother. (Adventure into Fear v1 #17)

Observing Wundarr on Earth, Dakkamite scientists reasoned he had gained his powers via the planet's solar energy, and the ruling elite directed the scientists to undertake an experiment to determine the viability of empowering their militia with similar capacities. To this end, the Power Platoon were created as a result. (Quasar v1 #4)

Fearing that Wundarr might some day return to avenge his parents' death, the Lords Consul sent Tuumar and Zeneg to track down Wundarr and determine whether he posed a threat. The pair were assigned a Mortoid robot assassin to destroy the youth if needed. Wundarr's leaps Eastward took him out over the Atlantic ocean, causing him to panic and fall 3 miles into the water, near the floating island Hydrobase Namorita observed his fall, saw he couldn't swim, dove in, pulled him to the edge, and gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when she saw he was barely breathing. As he recovered, she introduced herself, and having never really spoken before, he mimicked her words, calling her "Nee-tah!" Her cousin, Namor, arrived soon after, alongside the Hydro-Men, and Namor's confrontational approach caused Wundarr to leap away. Fearing for the childlike Wundarr, Namorita urged Namor to join her and going after him, and they followed him back to the main land. Tuumar and Zeneg observed Wundarr, determining that his power indeed posed a threat despite his childlike mentality. Wundarr landed again in the middle of Manhattan's 42nd street, crashing into the middle of traffic near the Thing (Ben Grimm). After a cab ran into him and Wundarr picked it up and threw it, the Thing caught the vehicle and then -- figuring the stranger was either crazy or stupid -- tackled and punched Wundarr, attempting to take him out of action until he could figure out his motivations. Landing atop a building, the puzzled, angry, and afraid Wundarr began ripping off and throwing chunks of masonry at the Thing before leaping down to battle him anew. Though the look in Wundarr's eye made the Thing suspect his foe to be mentally limited, he also suspected it could be a trick and punched him out. Arriving just then, Namor tackled the Thing, telling him the youth was under the protection of Atlantis; meanwhile, Namorita helped Wundarr back up to his feet and tried to convince him to depart with her. Tuumar and Zeneg then arrived with their Mortoid, and the Dakkamites blasted Wundarr, flattening him again. The Thing crushed the Dakkamite's blaster, and while he and Namor united to destroy the Mortoid, the Dakkamites attempted to drag Wundarr into their conveyor beam, despite Namorita's futile efforts to hold Wundarrr back. When the Thing and Namor approached to help, Tuumar and Zeneg, realizing they could not oppose that pair, departed. After explaining how Wundarr was a child in a man's body, Namor forced Namorita to return to Atlantis with him, leaving Wundarr to the Thing's care. (Marvel Two-In-One v1 #2)
