Biography

Zeus was one of the male Olympian gods who was the child of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. By the time of his birth, Cronus was told a prophecy that he was destined to be overthrown by his children just as he had overthrown his own father Ouranus. To prevent this fate, Cronus began to swallow his newborn children whole. After Zeus was born, his mother Rhea wanted to prevent this fate and devised a trick to spare him. She placed a stone in her arms pretending it was her child which the Titan consumed thinking it was his son. In reality, Zeus was spirited away by an eagle who took him to Gaia to be raised by Mother Earth. This was so that he would be raised and blessed with strength to challenge his own father in the future.
