Biography

Ryomen Sukuna the King of Spirits.

Ryomen Sukuna (Japanese: 両りょう面めん宿すく儺な, Hepburn: Ryōmen Sukuna?) was a male Cursed Spirit who came to be born in the modern age from negative human emotion. Originally, he had been a human being that lived over a thousand years ago where he became a talented jujutsu sorcerer during the golden age when that art of spellcasting was practiced by people. Possessing incredible power, he wreaked havoc in this era where he fought countless sorcerers who he defeated. After his death, he became a Cursed Spirit, and his curse was too strong for his body to be fully destroyed.

As a result, his 20 indestructible fingers were sealed away in grave wax and branded as high-level cursed objects which became scattered and lost over the ages. Special seals were kept on them to prevent them from influencing the world around them.

By 2018, one of Sukuna's fingers came to find itself as Sugisawa High School where it was kept in an outdoor thermometer box. The school's occult club had taken the finger from the thermometer box where they tried to remove the seal placed on it. Once they had taken the off the seal, other cursed spirits began to appear after being drawn by the fingers cursed energy leading to them attacking the club members. By this point, sorcerers from Jujutsu High looked to recover the fingers but had to contend with the Cursed Spirits. Megumi Fushiguro and Yuji Itadori looked to save the club members where in the fighting the latter came to eat one of Sukuna's fingers to prevent a Cursed Spirit from acquiring it. This caused Sukuna to be incarnated into Yuji, which the former is excited about. As Sukuna plans to start a massacre, he is stopped by Yuji who reclaims his body, which surprises the ancient sorcerer that he is able to resist his control so easily. When Megumi plans to kill Yuji to exorcise Sukuna, Satoru Gojo shows up and decides to test out Yuji's will. Sukuna is then given control of Yuji's body and starts to attack Gojo, but Yuji manages to take back control after ten seconds. The next day, another one of Sukuna's finger is shown to Yuji, with Gojo explaining how there are twenty of them and that they cannot be destroyed. Yuji then eats another of Sukuna's fingers and is able to still keep Sukuna under control. Days later when Yuji is brought to the Tokyo College, Sukuna finds out that Gojo is not the leader of the sorcerers and says how he is disappointed. Sukuna also tells Gojo that he will kill him first when he takes over Yuji's body, for not killing Yuji right away. As Gojo says that it's an honor to be targeted by Sukuna, Gojo then explained who Sukuna was to a curious Yuji.

During an investigation at a detention center, Sukuna was forcefully given control of Yuji's body to combat a special grade cursed spirit before it killed them. Instead of taking on the spirit, Sukuna decides to fight with the spirit in order to take out Megumi. When the spirit starts to attack Sukuna, Sukuna easily blocked the attacks and easily overwhelms the spirit. Sukuna then decided to teach the spirit a lesson and uses his domain expansion to easily cut the spirit into pieces. Sukuna then takes back his finger, which causes the spirit to die. Sukuna was prepared for Yuji to take back control, telling him to switch already, but when nothing happens, he eerily smiled realizing he could not. Sukuna met up with Megumi outside of the detention center, and removed Yuji's heart so that Yuji would not be able to switch with him. Sukuna then ate the finger that he had just got from the special grade cursed spirit and plans on killing Megumi. Sukuna and Megumi start to fight, where Sukuna easily defeats some of Megumi's shikigami, though he was impressed by the skill in which he utilizes them. Sukuna manages to push Megumi into a corner, questioning him on why he focused on fleeing, which confuses Megumi. Nonetheless, Megumi decides to fight seriously, which greatly enthuses Sukuna, but before the fight can continue, Yuji regains control from Sukuna, which results in Yuji's death. After Yuji had died, Sukuna and Yuji started to fight one another within Sukuna's territory. Sukuna easily overpowered Yuji and after restraining Yuji, he told him that they were not dead yet. Sukuna proposed to bring Yuji back to life, with the condition that he will be able to take complete control of his body for a minute, but also swearing he would not harm any of his friends when he does. Yuji rejected and told him just to revive him, so Sukuna proposed that they fight and the winner get their deal. Yuji accepted, but Sukuna immediately defeated him. Yuji was subsequently revived, aware that Sukuna was responsible, though with no memory of the deal he made with him

Overview

Personality and attributes

He was described as being a demon with four arms and two faces. In truth, he was a human sorcerer also known as the Disgraced One (堕だ天てん Daten?). Long ago, he came to be regarded as the legendary Imaginary Demon (仮想かそうの鬼神きじん Kasō no Kijin?). Such was his power that he was regarded as the undisputed King of Curses (呪のろいの王おう Noroi no Ō?).

Sukuna was a selfish, cold-hearted, immoral, and exceptionally sadistic being. He was noted for being highly intelligent and manipulative figure.

It was shown that he was aware of his immense power and was quite arrogant about it. This led to him being highly dismissive of his opponents and rarely took them seriously.

Due to his immense power, he rarely cared about the consequences of his actions.

Powers and abilities

Originally, Sukuna was a mortal human who had been held as the most powerful sorcerer in the Golden Age of Jujutsu and had killed many powerful sorcerers before ultimately being defeated himself. As a Cursed Spirit, he was a supernatural being born from negative emotions that flowed from humans. Only those capable of seeing cursed energy were capable of seeing him. As a Special Grade, he possessed vast amounts of cursed energy at his disposal. In fact, as the King of the Curses, he was regarded as the most powerful known Cursed Spirit and possessed both overwhelming levels of power and extraordinary levels of skill.

One of his feats included single-handedly slaughtering both the Sun, Moon, and Stars Squad and the Five Empty Generals, the most elite of the Fujiwara Clan's forces, leaving the authorities of Japan so utterly terrified that they were willing to hold festivities in his honor. The impact Sukuna left on history until he died earned him the title of the "Strongest Sorcerer in History", as well as the "King of Curses". His strength was still held in such a high regard that even Satoru Gojo, the strongest jujutsu sorcerer of the modern age, with arrogance levels of confidence and pride in his abilities, acknowledged his strength and that a fight between the two of them would be difficult.

It was noted that he was a special grade cursed spirit and an incredibly powerful one. Such was his power that he was so strong where he could not be fully destroyed. This was the point that his 20 fingers were regarded as being indestructible and unable to be destroyed where they were regarded as powerful cursed objects. He held massive reserves of Cursed Energy that allowed him to make continuous usage of his cursed techniques without any strain with this far exceeding those of any other Special-Grade Cursed Spirits. It was noted that his mere presence upon awakening could be felt through the entire Shibuya area.

More than living up to his titles, Sukuna possessed vast amounts of cursed energy and equally incredible control over it, with an extraordinary grasp over jujutsu, but he was also not reliant on jujutsu alone, possessing overwhelming physical prowess as well, capable of dispatching almost any opponent without unveiling his true cursed technique.

He was capable of the power of Incarnation (受肉じゅにく Juniku?) where he was able to manifest in the body of whoever ate his fingers thus gaining their physical human body in the process. He was able to manifest new eyes and mouths on his host body allowing him to see and speak without controlling the body of the host.

Even in an incomplete state, he possessed tremendous physical strength to the point of overwhelming larger opponents. He was able to move at incredible speeds to the point that his enemies could not even register his movements. Similarly, his reflexes were fast enough that he was easily able to counter any opponent. Using cursed energy, he was able to bolster his host's resilience allowing him to endure powerful attacks. In addition, he was an extremely skilled and powerful close-quarters fighter.

Offensively, Sukuna could use Cursed Energy to Dismantle (解カイ Kai?) his target with this being his default slashing attack where he used it on inanimate objects but could apply it to cursed spirits. Alternatively, he could use Cleave (捌ハチ Hachi?) on his foes with this being a slash of energy that could strike from either close to long range. It was shown to be capable of cutting through inanimate objects and Cursed Spirits with ease.

Sukuna could also trigger a Domain Expansion (領りょう域いき展てん開かい Ryōiki Tenkai?) which was an advanced barrier technique that manifested his Innate Domain (生得領域しょうとくりょういき Shōtoku Ryōiki?). In his case, he was able to trap his targets inside his Malevolent Shrine (伏ふく魔ま御み厨づ子し Fukuma Mizushi?) though unlike normal Domains he did not create a separate space with a barrier. Thus, it was considered a truly divine technique with it being compared to an artist able to draw a masterpiece on air instead of on a canvas.
