Lemuria is a mythical "lost continent," in the same vein as Atlantis (and sometimes supposed to be identical with it).

The concept was invented by 19th-century evolutionists to explain how lemurs and several other species could exist in both Africa and India. Zoologist Philip Sclater coined the name "Lemuria" to designate this theoretical land bridge- the idea was later picked up and ran with by a number of occultists.
