Hogan was the first mate of the Covena. He was notably the only member of its crew who treated Edward Parker amicably. Nevertheless, he didn't object when Captain Davies ordered Edward thrown overboard into Dr. Moreau's launch. When the Covena made port, Hogan greeted his girlfriend, and was approached by Ruth Thomas about Edward's whereabouts. Hogan told her to speak to Davies about the matter.
