Biography
Legends of Metru Nui
1001 years ago, Amaya lived and worked in the district of Ga-Metru with her fellow Ga-Matoran on Metru Nui. When another Ga-Matoran named Vhisola mysteriously disappeared, Amaya decided to look for clues in Vhisola's classroom and bumped into Toa Nokama, who was there for the same reason. Amaya informed Nokama that Vhisola had been acting strangely a few days prior, asking specific questions about the Great Temple and Ga-Metru's Protodermis Falls. Amaya then suggested that Nokama search Vhisola's desk for clues. Nokama followed Amaya's advice and found a note that an Onu-Matoran named Tehutti sent to Vhisola about the Great Temple, then left to continue her investigation alone. Later that year, all the Matoran of Metru Nui (including Amaya) were rounded up by Vahki under the control of Makuta Teridax and placed into stasis in Matoran Spheres as part of Teridax's plan to replace Mata Nui as their ruler. After the Toa Metru defeated Teridax by trapping him in a Toa Seal (BIONICLE 2: Legends of Metru Nui), they recovered each Matoran Sphere (except one) and transported them to the island of Mata Nui, where they sacrificed their Toa powers to awaken the Matoran. However, because the Matoran (including Amaya) had been in stasis for so long, their bodies had been shrunk into smaller, less powerful forms and all memories of their lives on Metru Nui had been completely erased. Island of Mata Nui
Around 500 years later, Amaya joined Kai's rowing club at the behest of Macku and Marka. On their first trip out to sea, the four Ga-Matoran were attacked by a Great Temple Squid and Marka was dragged into the sea by one of its tentacles. Amaya fearlessly jumped into the water after her and beat the Rahi's eye with her oar until it released Marka, then grabbed her and rested her on a lily pad above water. Though Amaya had saved Marka, the creature continued to attack Ga-Koro, so she grabbed nearby coil of rope and jumped back into the sea in an attempt to restrain its tentacles. Amaya valiantly fought the creature and continued to tie its tentacles until she finally lost consciousness due to a lack of air. Fortunately, Amaya awoke to see Marka, Macku, and Turaga Nokama, who congratulated her for her bravery, and scorned her for her recklessness, but explained that her efforts had forced the creature to retreat altogether. After the Toa Mata had arrived on the island, an Teridax-controlled Tarakava attacked Ga-Koro and forced all of its Ga-Matoran (save for Macku) into one hut. The Tarakava then damaged the hut's floatation system, causing it to sink beneath the waves. The trapped Ga-Matoran (Amaya included) were saved when Takua repaired the flotation system and the hut returned to its former position. (Mata Nui Online Game)
Later that year, the Turaga announced the Rebuilding, an event in which all the Matoran of Mata Nui would be rebuilt into larger, stronger forms. This was to compensate for the strength that the Matoran had lost to the Matoran Spheres a thousand years prior. Like all the other Matoran on the island, Amaya was rebuilt into a stronger form. (Wall of History) By this time, Amaya had become a flax-maker. (Mata Nui Online Game II: The Final Chronicle)
On the day after a storm struck Ga-Koro, Amaya asked Hahli to fetch her some Harakeke Plants and Cowrie Shells so that she could make some flax for Kai. Amaya added that the storm had damaged the bridge that connected Ga-Koro to the mainland. Once Hahli had delivered the plants and shells, Amaya lent Hahli her Throwing Disk so that she could use it to dislodge the bridge's counterweight. Later, Amaya watched a Kolhii match between Ga-Koro and Onu-Koro and praised Hahli for her performance in it. (Mata Nui Online Game II: The Final Chronicle)
Return to Metru Nui
Later that year, the Turaga revealed the truth about the Matoran's former lives on Metru Nui and announced that they were to return to their former home. The Ga-Matoran (Amaya included) aided in the construction of boats for the journey. (BIONICLE Adventures 1: Mystery of Metru Nui) Once the exodus to Metru Nui was complete, Amaya helped to repair the damage to the City of Legends (BIONICLE Legends 1: Island of Doom) and continued to live there even after Teridax's eventual takeover of the Matoran Universe. When the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the Matoran of Metru Nui (Amaya included) emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna. (Official Greg Discussion)
Notes
- Amaya has been directly referenced (by name) in only three canon works: Mata Nui Online Game II: The Final Chronicle, Nokama's Toa Metru Mini Promo CD, and Tentacles by Turakii #1 Lavasurfer.
- Amaya was created for Mata Nui Online Game II: The Final Chronicle. She is the first non-player character that the player (Hahli) encounters and serves to establish the setting and introduce some of the game's mechanics.
