Mu was a sunken continent in the Pacific Ocean, 1000 miles south of Easter Island. The continent arose in the time of the Elder Things, and was ruled by the Star-Spawn of Cthulhu until they joined their master in R'lyeh.

Supposedly it was the land where humanity first appeared, and they coexisted with a race of aliens pretending to be gods. They also worshipped a number of other gods, including many of the Great Old Ones and Elder Gods. The island's heyday was around 200,000 years ago, and Mu was destroyed under debated circumstances around 161,844 BC (according to one account). The survivors fled to other Pacific lands.
