Thataka

In the Ramayana, Thataka was a demigoddess, wife of a chieftain named Sunda and mother of the powerful Mareecha and Subahu. The great savant Agasthya destroyed Sunda after the chieftain destroyed the forest he lived in. Determined to gain revenge, Thataka and her sons went to attack Agasthya, but he cursed them. Each demigod became an asura. Thataka remained in the area, and rendered it a desert, until she was slain by the hero Rama.
