Contents

American

One of the customers who was in the Jolly Cricketers during Griffin's siege of it. He was a foreigner, and the only one who carried a gun. He joined the barman, an off-duty constable and two cab drivers in fighting the invisible man to protect Thomas Marvel, and ultimately a lucky shot wounded Griffin and made him flee.

Anemic Cabman

A cab driver who was in the Jolly Cricketers. He was sickly-looking and apparently under the weather. Despite this, he - along with another cabman - participated in the group effort to fend off the attacking Griffin.

Barman

Owner of the Jolly Cricketers in Port Burdock. When Thomas Marvel was fleeing from Griffin, the barman allowed the tramp to hide in his establishment. When Griffin tried to break in to get to Marvel, the barman joined his customers in fending off the invisible man. They were successful.

Elderly Mariner

An old sailor Thomas Marvel sat next to outside of an inn in Port Stowe. The mariner was reading a newspaper about the invisible man's attacks in Iping, and, attempting to make small talk with Marvel, said he believed the story was true, since it wouldn't be in the news if it wasn't. Marvel tried to convince him it was a hoax (despite knowing it wasn't). The mariner became angry at having been duped by the papers. Later, however, secondhand stories of the invisible man robbing people, from another mariner he knew, convinced him the stories were true and Marvel lied.

Off-Duty Policeman

A Port Burdock constable off duty in the Jolly Cricketers. He didn't have his truncheon with him when the bar's customers fought off Griffin to protect Thomas Marvel, but was nonetheless successful at repelling the invisible man until another customer, armed with a gun, could drive Griffin off.

Second Cabman

A Port Burdock cab driver. When Griffin was assaulting the Jolly Cricketers to try and get to the hiding Thomas Marvel, he came over to see what all the commotion was about, and entered during a lull in the action, when the barman and customers couldn't ascertain Griffin's whereabouts. Suddenly, Griffin seized Marvel. The newly arrived cabman joined the others present in coming to Marvel's rescue.
